Good job Richard. Too bad he had to meet Mahut but anyway..

Richie was playing out of his mind, so great :music: considering draw he is my favourite to reach QFs

Gasquet played out of his mind...If he keeps this form up, everyone watchout! Who would have thought Gasquet could play like this after the weak performances of him lately?

Mahut has to be tired after Queens and qualifying.

But Richie played really well.

I will watch the match as soon as they put ot online on the wimbledon site. For the time being, I am just happy and pleased. Winning 93 % of his first serves sounds good. :D

Aww, Mahut... Queen's final, qualifying for Wimby - must have been a little too much for him.

Congrats to Gasquet! :worship: - indeed, if he continues playing like this, everybody should watch out!

Good-bye to One Hit Wonder Mahut!!!,after having the most brilliant fornight of his life with great victories (Queen's and Wimbledon Qualifying) he's now where he's deserved.
I don't expect too much from him for the rest of this year's calendar.

No need to be like that just because he beat your fav:rolleyes: ... And duh he's a grass court specialist so of course he's not going to have the same results after

Good job Gasquet. :yeah: Hopefully he takes advantage of this draw and finally gets to the QF of a slam.

Disappointing from Mahut, 9-1 in the grass season and loses in straights to a slumpy Gasquet.

Ya sad that Mahut was too fatigued.

Gasquet is too mentally inept to ever achieve anything in a slam.

Gasquet to lose in the next round in straights, then?

That'd be Richie all over.

I was looking forward to seeing the play of Mahut after hearing/reading how well he performed up until now. Too bad his run is over.

I'm very happy for Richard, though. I keep wanting to see this guy break through. I hope he can make some noise here.

Gasquet is 5 years younger than Federer so this 2007 should be like Federers 2002, one more year and I think he will be ready to make a real breakthrought.

Ahh, who am I trying to fool? Gasquet has the greatest talent among all young players, but why would a player who doesnt ever seem to care about winning matches ever win a big tournament? I hope you get this, Federer was a mental midget when he was young but he desired for more and he smashed raquets when things didnt go his way, he cried when he lost some matches and he just wanted more than he was getting from his tennis.

I have never seen this from Gasquet, so I hope this boy wakes up or he is never going anywhere with his amazing spectacular tennis. I would rather have him smash raquets and cry after losses instead of him going around with that face which says I am losing and I dont care.

I still have hope for Gasquet but where is the fighter inside him?

According to wimbledon.org

Nicolas Gasquet (FRA) defeated Nicolas Mahut 6-4, 6-3, 6-4

going around with that face which says I am losing and I dont care.

I've never seen him with a face like this ever. It's more like "Boohooo. I'm losing and i don't know what to do. I can't win. I can't bla bla bla bla..." He always feels very bad about losing but it's more a very low confidence, fighting spirit and some kind of panic for him in those case i think.

I am not going to start a"pseudo-psychological" debate, but I simply think not throwing rackets and not crying is not necessarily equivalent to not caring about losing or (even more important) his tennis.

Ofcourse not, but I cant see that strive for greatness in Gasquet, he is not a little kid anymore you know. I dont get the feeling of a fighter in him, an indepedent and strong person who can take important career decisions like Federer always has been. There is different form of mental weaknesses and I feel like Federer indeed had problems with some when he was younger but Gasquets scores high on all kind of weaknesses mentaly. He gets disconcentrated in matches, he doesnt have fighting spirit, he gets nervous when under pressure, I even doubt his discipline outside the court as I dont see the improvement I was expecting. I was waiting for some improvements in Gasquets other weapons than his backhand, like his serve, forehand and volleys, but I see the same player out there with only the small expected improvements which comes with age. I will give him another year to match the ultimate late maturer Federer, but not more than that. I hope so much to see him in wimbledon semifinal this year but I think Roddick will destroy him which is sad because Gasquet has the weapons to destroy Roddick on any surface.

Well done to Richie, good solid performance :)

Great performance but it's all about finding the balance and we already knew Gasquet was capable of great performances. Keeping it up is what's difficult.

That's so unfair for Mahut, with his great results on grass before Wimby. :(
Richard beat him but won't go far in the tournament...

I didn't expect such a routine victory for Gasquet but he played very well and was far too good for Mahut. He has a great chance to make it to the QFs now.

Blah Blah Blah wasted talent - I am so sick of reading this at MTF! Maybe Gasquet is just at the level he should be at? Federer is a once in a lifetime talent, why put the pressure on Ritchie to be The Next anything. He's just Gasquet. Good win today.

Gasquet has a great draw now but I don't think he beat Mahut because he was playing very well -- I think Mahut was tired after his long match yesterday. He could meet Tsonga later.

I've always liked Gasquet. One of my favorite players on the current tour and easily my favorite youngster. To anyone who questions his fighting spirit need only look to his USO 4R last year. That was a fighter and didn't give up at all. He has it in him to do more.

Potential Gasquet/Tsonga 4R. :hearts:
