I like Queens :) People talk about how snobby the tournament is, but I really didn't mind. There are far less stupid fans there than there are at most other tournaments. People, if they don't know anything about a player, keep their mouth shut rather than spout nonsense. So I like that :)

The draw is up. Nole is the 4th seed.

First round: Bye
Second round: the winner of Ernest Gulbis - Robert Kendrick

Projections:

QF: Safin (though Ivo Karlovic is in Safin's/Nole's part of the draw, and with 208 cm/6'10" he's practically an ace machine and therefore quite a contender on grass - QC finalist 2005. Could be hairy.)

SF: Nadal (who should meet Ljubicic in QF)

F: Roddick (who should have a handful with last year's champion Hewitt in QF)

Draw doesn't scare me. Nole can win here.

Farenhajt
06-09-2007, 06:33 PM
It isn't frightful, but it has a tough point or two, undisputably (Karlovic and Nole never played each other before). And we'll also see how fast will Nole switch from clay to grass.

I think they might have played in qualifying somewhere. I want to say Madrid Masters 2005??? You can't find qualifying on the ATP website, but you can find it on the ITF website.

http://www.itftennis.com/mens/

Loooking...

Yeah, Madrid Masters 2005 first round of qualfying Karlovic won 6-4, 6-4.

ITF site is a good resource.

It's an interesting draw. Not too difficult. A little challenging, maybe.

The people I was concerned about were the old guys who had results on grass in the past: Grosjean, Tojo, Henman, Bjorkman.

Regarding this post (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=5493295&postcount=43) of mine: It seems that Roddick's Wimbledon Finals 2005 will earn him an unbeatable extra of 3/4 * 700 = 525 points (plus 75 points from Wimbledon 2006 and remains-to-be-seen-how-many points from QC 2007). Hence Nole should strive to beat Davydenko and Gonzalez for the 4th seed position, which shouldn't be so difficult.

Nole and Janko are participating as a doubles team :) that's cool. Though they have Bhupathi/Stepanek in the 1st round, and that should be tough, given their performance on RG.

And even if they get through, there are Hanley/Ullyett in the next round...

Dušan Vemić is one step from getting qualified, and he could play another qualifier, Kristian Pless or Janko (!) in the first round. I really do hope that history of charming draws won't repeat :(

Roddick/Ginepri had entered the doubles event at Surbiton Challenger (!) and were knocked out in the 1st round (!!), losing 7-5 6-1 (!!!). Roddick didn't attend the obligatory press conference after the match (he basically ran away) and hence will be fined by ATP.

It seems that Roddick can't find his game. If that perseveres, then Hewitt is the strongest finals candidate from the bottom half of the draw.

yes, I was watching the match and really loved that part.

but.. It bugged me that noone but Nole came even near kendrick. he was to one to get him the towel, water etc. The rest of the people (officials) around were just standing there and waiting for the trainer
I may be wrong since I didn't see the part when the trainer came, maybe just before that someone else tried to help, but for the first few moments, the poor guy was alone rolling on the ground, obviously in pain.
It really bugged me.

Lee
06-13-2007, 07:52 PM
I think ball girls and boys are not allowed to do anything unless to do what players request from them that's within their duties. And I guess since Nole is there to look after Kendrick, it's better for the umpire to stay in his/her seat to keep in contact with official to hurry up the arrival of trainer.

kirkicica
06-13-2007, 07:56 PM
I'm not pointing out anyone (ball kids, umpire), I'm not even sure what should anyone do, but it's weird to see someone in pain rolling on the ground for not just a moment and no one doing anything.

Oh well, it's just me.

Lee
06-13-2007, 07:59 PM
Well, Nole had the situation under control.

I understand it looks bad but really, there's not much anyone can do until the trainer arrives. People there are not trained to help and crowding over Kendrick is not helping either. What Nole did was the best help Kendrick could have before trainer arrived.

Like I said, the bad weather *always* affects Nole. It never fails, even if only one match is postponed, it would be Nole's.

Hopefully it won't matter much, you don't have to spend as much energy on grass. He can beat Clement easily on this surface and then win his next match, too. Roddick is looking extremely weak this week (as always) and so Nole is looking to have a good shot at the title, imo, even with the endlessly bad "luck" (poor scheduling) he gets.

To be honest, I'm moderately worried about him against Karlovic, in spite of the fact that Nole likes tiebreaks and does them well. I just hope there will be no concentration lapses on his side and that his returns will work perfectly.

On the good side, Davydenko is out of Halle, so he's no longer a contender for Wimbledon's 4th seed position.

Unbelievable, that Nole has AGAIN 2 matches at one day!
Kind of dangerous...
I have seen all matches from Nole in Hamburg this May and (I think Thursday) he`s had 2 matches. The second match was so hard for my nervs, because he seemed really tyred and I was so afraid he could loose.:baby:
But then he came back to business! :woohoo:

He`ll do it again very well tomorrow, I´m so sure! :)

For one thing, grasscourt matches are much less physically taxing than claycourt ones, so I don't expect him to be exhausted for the Karlovic match (provided he beats Clement, which he should).

And I'm sure they actually hate him in UK, since he commandingly overtook Murray's golden child position.

But he said he did recover. I don't have full match stats, but judging by the nice number of aces and decent 1st serve percentage, it seems that Nole made a whole bunch of unforced errors...

Possibly he got conflicted between baselining and serve-and-volleying. Knowing what he did lately, it's all but possible that he decided to attack the net more and made all the UE's in the process.

Nole can only withdraw AFTER he's out of Queens so it's probably not long ago.

If he withdrew, it would probably be because he's played a lot of tennis and doesn't want to be bothered leaving London just to come back to London  He'd rather not waste time travelling and just stick around town practicing, I'd think, might be the reasoning, if he has withdrawn. We all thought looking at his schedule that s'Hertogenbosch would be the one to drop from a jampacked schedule if he felt the need to drop any of them.

From ThisIsLondon (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/sport/article-23400851-details/Djokovic%20a%20loser%20all%20down%20the%20line/article.do):
Novak Djokovic has lost two things that matter to him this week — the chance to gain valuable match practice on grass and Andy Murray's phone number.

Not only did the world No 4 go down yesterday in the third round of the Artois Championships at Queen's Club, he has also been unable to contact his great friend and rival. Born just seven days apart, he and Murray came up through the international junior ranks together and share the distinction of making it into the world's top 10 while they were still teenagers.

It is likely that the pair will develop a major rivalry over the coming years, but that has not affected their friendship and Djokovic has wanted to catch up first hand with Murray this week.

"I've wanted to call him but either I've lost his right number or he has changed it," said the genial Serb after he had gone down 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to Frenchman Arnaud Clement in a match held over from Thursday.

Well for someone who is a relatively new poster like Farenhajt, it would only take one or two if they don't have the good reps in their history to balance it out. In your rep box there should be a total rep point thing there.. after you're on MTF for a while and you have enough reputation points that are positive, it's almost impossible to get someone red.

I'd like to see someone try to make me red at this point. My rep points have been maxed out for well over a year.

In under a year :) Impressive :) My first year at MTF I was mostly too scared to post outside of the SPAIN forums. :rolls: I was a big Ferrero/Robredo fan then and GM and NT scared me.

Now I'm an NT-junkie. Damn Adam's chat thread.

I have been posting since the AO .
I mainly hung out in the roddick forum and then some of the NT threads that I never post in anymore.
GM scared me too.:scared: And I never wanted to post in the NT chat threads I was to shy/scared.

Jess, I know I should be spanked because this query should be under the Feedback and Support forum :o but is there a way for me to keep all the goodrep comments I got (instead of having them pushed down by newer reps) most of them are pretty funny.. :awww:

EDIT: Never mind, found it (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showpost.php?p=4206482&postcount=128) :awww:
