- "At the start I really didn't believe I could beat Mats Wilander. But he gave me a couple of opportunities, and I took advantage. It really all depended on how I was playing. I was going to win it, he wasn't going to lose it" - Sampras said.
- "It was my worst loss, especially because I played that bad" - Wilander said.
- Sampras was leading 4-2 in the final set, Wilander broke back to 4-4, but Pete broke him again. Serving for the match at 5-4 Pete was 15-40 down, on his first MP, he made a double-fault, but he won in the next occasion.
