05-01-2004, 06:03 PM
It's the first time he plays with him.
VAMOS DAVID!!!!

sigmagirl91
05-01-2004, 06:43 PM
He can do it.

05-01-2004, 08:46 PM
good luck david!! btw does anyone know if coria is playin in rome??? :(

jazz_girl
05-01-2004, 08:53 PM
No, he withdrew two days ago. Ferrero did too, they're not on the draw. And I also read that Coria will not go to Hamburg if he's not 100% ready, but he wants to go.

bovenbuuf
05-01-2004, 09:42 PM
well guess that is better for David, no JC and Coria..

jazz_girl
05-01-2004, 10:07 PM
Nor Guga, Fish and Agassi...

sigmagirl91
05-02-2004, 12:40 AM
And you might as well throw Roddick and Federer in that mix, as they are not the best clay court players out there. Feds and Roddick have some tough opponents in their quarter of the draw, so Dave may have a chance to win Rome. Let's hope so, because not only will he amass some major points (I predict if he wins, he will be no 6 in the world-just a prediction, not that it will happen), but get a fat ass check with a shiny Masters trophy. Vamos David, you can do it.....

jazz_girl
05-02-2004, 01:19 AM
Yeah, that would be amazing! But the last I dreamt about him winning a trophy he ended up losing the in QF with a qualy guy...I won't jinx it this time!!!

Fedex
05-02-2004, 03:46 AM
GOOD LUCK DAVID!! :bounce:  :woohoo: Possible semi with Rogi

05-02-2004, 04:43 AM
Good analysis, Sig. ;)

I also hope David can have a good performance here.......

So Soderling at first doesn't sound THAT good for me, but well, some other players have it worse than that.

Come on David! You can make it!

novanora
05-02-2004, 04:57 PM
Fed's draw is not that bad, but Roddick......maybe will be kicked ass in his first round;) To Rome, I'd better not to expect too much, in case i would be choked by his "surprise" just like the last lost in Barca....
Step by step, he can manage Rome, but just depending on himself only.

jazz_girl
05-02-2004, 05:19 PM
So true...

Dammit....I think that as it's one of the 1st matches, ESPN Latin America won't transmit it live....maybe they'll do it already in the afternoon and taped. :(

novanora
05-02-2004, 07:21 PM
too late.... and I have a Labour Day party tomorrow with my friends. The match will be over when i come back......
So bring my cheers to David tomorrow, everyone!!

bovenbuuf
05-02-2004, 07:38 PM

Raquel
05-02-2004, 08:11 PM
Good Luck David :)

I will be able to watch this match on TV tomorrow as in the UK we can pick between either Centre Court and the Pallacorda. If I am home I will tell you all what's going on if no one else can ;)

05-02-2004, 10:02 PM
well its not that early for you Rosie..

No - I know - it will be mid-day, but I haven't had much sleep for 3 days now  and when I finally collapse into my own bed I think I'll sleep for about 24 hours without stirring!!

Welcome back Rosie :wavey:

I was actually going to say in my last post that Rosie might be able to see it too being in the UK, but didn't want to in case you didn't! We should get this service again for Hamburg :)

I might not be able to see it if I am not home so at least someone will see it from the forum, if you get up on time ;) Sleep well, you deserve it!

Ma. Estefania
05-02-2004, 11:01 PM
Thanx Rosie and Raquel for offering to give us the details of David's match ;)

Hope we can have good news tomorrow. ;)

Thanks Raquel - I will do my best with match reports - but only during "advert" breaks - I'm not missing one shot of David's while I'm typing!! Actually I will be in Hamburg for a week so won't need interractive then! It will be on the one with no commentary today though won't it, because Tim will be on the main court.

bovenbuuf
05-03-2004, 11:52 AM
oh sorry to hear Rosie to get no commands of you...

*Ljubica*
05-03-2004, 12:25 PM
OK David leads 2-1 in the 1st set with a break

Raquel
05-03-2004, 01:09 PM
I just got home and David is winning :bounce: which is always good. Hopefully he can wrap this up in straight sets :)

sigmagirl91
05-03-2004, 01:26 PM
Yeah, I hear he's winning. He took the first set 6-4. Anyone know the score currently?

Raquel
05-03-2004, 01:35 PM
He won 6-4, 6-4 after being 4-2 down in the second :D

It was not his best ever performance, but played well when it mattered :)

Good Luck in round 2 David :yeah:

sigmagirl91
05-03-2004, 01:36 PM
Alright. Go King David. Wonder who's next?

*Ljubica*
05-03-2004, 01:49 PM
Alright. Go King David. Wonder who's next?

Saretta or Ancic - they play later today. VAMOS DAVID!

jazz_girl
05-03-2004, 01:55 PM
Vamos David!!!!

sigmagirl91
05-03-2004, 01:56 PM
Saretta or Ancic - they play later today. VAMOS DAVID!

I pick him to meet Saretta. I think he can beat Saretta. Has he played Ancic before?

bovenbuuf
05-03-2004, 01:58 PM
no not ancic...

novanora
05-03-2004, 03:54 PM
Hi, everyone!! I come back and see the delicious result of David match. I am so glad he starts Rome with the first winning!!
And for the next opponent, head to head: David 4-2 Saretta and he never played against Ancic before, so.......

jazz_girl
05-03-2004, 04:35 PM
How was the party? did you have fun?

novanora
05-03-2004, 05:00 PM
Yeah, the party is great.....but the question is - I was always worrying about HIS MATCH!! LOL especially when my friend sent me the message saying he was 2-4 in the second set...

bovenbuuf
05-03-2004, 06:53 PM
Well david has to face Saretta,he beated Ancic in 64 36 76..

head to head, David leads with 2-1
last victory was for David in Miami 2003 on hard.. the last time met on clay was also a victory of David this was in RG 6 3 6 4 6 0

sigmagirl91
05-03-2004, 07:32 PM
Wasn't the only match he lost to Saretta a default? Am I right on that?

bovenbuuf
05-03-2004, 07:44 PM
correct he had to retire than with score 4-3 it was in Vila del Mar or whats it called

sigmagirl91
05-03-2004, 08:06 PM
wonder what happened there?

jazz_girl
05-03-2004, 08:47 PM
Didn't David insulted the umpire or something like that? I think he was expelled or something like that...

jazz_girl
05-03-2004, 08:59 PM
Ok, he was playing in Viña del Mar and was diqualified for verbal abuse. At the begining of the match he recieved a warning because Markus was giving him instructions, but then he got mad to the umpire because of a call, and you know the rest...

bovenbuuf
05-03-2004, 09:01 PM
it was Davids temper that got him into trouble...

jazz_girl
05-03-2004, 09:09 PM
He has to control that!!! He has to focus on the match, and he can't get mad that easily, an umpire almost never changes a call, so there's no point on arguing! He has to let it go and go on playing if he wants to win...

bovenbuuf
05-03-2004, 09:39 PM
well Jazz that is easy to tell but its hard to do..especialy for david

Ma. Estefania
05-03-2004, 11:16 PM
I'm glad that he won apparently in a comfortable way without too much problems as I thought Soderling was gonna put to cute David.

Now Saretta.....definitely a "winnable" (yes, that word doesn't exist I think *sighs*) player.....

Vamos David :bounce:

jazz_girl
05-04-2004, 01:07 AM
Maybe it doesn't exist but I like the sound of it ;)

sigmagirl91
05-04-2004, 01:20 AM
Ma, do you mean "beatable"? "Winnable" would describe the match itself; "beatable" would describe the player.

jazz_girl
05-04-2004, 01:25 AM
I like both words to be honest! LOL As long as they don't refer to David, of course...

*Ljubica*
05-04-2004, 06:34 AM
I like them too - and our TV commentators are always talking about matches being "winnable"!!! Having seen David's match on TV it wasn't so easy I don't think - especially the second set - but he won - that's all that matters!

Good Luck in the next round David!

Tricky_Forehand
05-04-2004, 08:19 AM
David!! :bounce:

I was very happy when I saw that he won in straights. I read that he struggled a bit in the 2nd but that's ok...he won it :)

Tuga
05-04-2004, 05:23 PM
I think the most important thing is to win! with victories he still more confident! we believe in you David! Força David, Portugal está contigo!

*Ljubica*
05-04-2004, 09:52 PM
Well there's nothing official out yet, but according to our TV commentators (I am watching the Hewitt match at the moment), they say David's match tomorrow is 3rd on Pallacorda Court. Play starts at 1.00pm CET, so that means he should play at about 5.00pm CET, 4.00pm English time, mid-day in Argentina - sorry can't convert any more times! I plan to go into work really early and work through lunch in the hope I can get home in time to watch this!

VAMOS DAVID!

Ma. Estefania
05-05-2004, 12:13 AM
Thanx for the info, Rosie.

I'll be in school yet at that time, but well.....hope to get back to home and have good news here. :)

jazz_girl
05-05-2004, 02:25 AM
I think I can make it to the match, my tennis class finishes at mid-day, so I guess I'll be able to follow most of the match! ;)

sigmagirl91
05-05-2004, 02:27 AM
I won't. I will be in training for the first part of the day tomorrow, after which I take lunch, and I may not see the office again until 1:00 or 1:30.

novanora
05-05-2004, 04:43 AM
Well, the time means near to the mid night for me.... but I still can follow the match, maybe even better, it can be broadcasted here!

*Ljubica*
05-05-2004, 06:22 AM
So maybe see some of you here or on MSN later - if not please give our man a big cheer from me :)

Tricky_Forehand

novanora
05-05-2004, 04:04 PM
Henman's game is over. So next in Pallacorda's court will be David's game. But it's raining, still don't know when to play....just wait.

jazz_girl
05-05-2004, 05:02 PM
Well, David was leading 3-1 but it was stopped by rain...

*Ljubica*
05-05-2004, 05:13 PM
Yes - and the weather conditions look really bad there now - and a terrible forecast too:-((

Raquel
05-05-2004, 05:13 PM
Well that sounds like a good start from David :)

I think I can get this one on TV but the Pallacorda court I can see is covered up so hopefully that's the court David is on.

Tricky_Forehand
05-05-2004, 06:13 PM
I don't care if he wins in two or 3 sets, I just want him to win!!! LOL!

 Agreed!!

Only now it's looking like he's going to have to play two matches tomorrow

bovenbuuf
05-05-2004, 08:18 PM
With bad weather expected to keep players off the courts for the rest of this evening, tournament organisers have brought forward Thusday`s kick-off to 11am. Seven courts will be used to work off the backlog.. so guess some of you have to go up early

jazz_girl
05-05-2004, 09:44 PM
Yes, I'll get up really early. I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow!!!

*Ljubica*
05-05-2004, 10:04 PM
David and Saretta play 2nd match on Pallacorda Court (after Marat v Paradorn), and the winner is 4th on Court Centrale against either Sjeng or Volandri.

jazz_girl
05-05-2004, 10:09 PM
It's gonna be a tough day tomorrow...

BaselineSmash
05-05-2004, 10:31 PM
Well he's not going to have too much trouble against Saretta, but the rest will come down to conditioning. Nalbandian is one of my favourite players, but he doesn't strike me as the fittest guy around...what do you all think, will his body hold up?

sigmagirl91
05-05-2004, 10:41 PM
I think his fitness is just fine; just that he is bigger than some of the guys who are his height. Most of it, of course, looks like muscle; the rest? well, I've put him on a chocolate ban until he gets rid of the excess....

BaselineSmash
05-05-2004, 11:10 PM
Q. Well David, once your career is over, what do you think are the chances of you rivalling Peter Lundgren in the gut department?

Nalbandian: I think is not impossible.

sigmagirl91
05-05-2004, 11:13 PM
Now, BaselineSmash, that was wrong on all levels. But, if he keeps up at the rate he's going, he could rival Lundgren and Mancini. Hope he doesn't become a victim of male pattern baldness. He would be most unattractive.

BaselineSmash
05-05-2004, 11:20 PM

Am I blind? I think I see a contradiction here...

05-06-2004, 12:34 AM
Ok, I'm trying to find a pic of David with the Pope but I can't find it!!! Has anyone seen some?

Angelito
05-06-2004, 02:56 AM
I've been looking all over the net and I can't find anyone either so I guess no one took a photo of him with the Pope.

undomiele
05-06-2004, 05:09 AM
Go DaVID! Win this one baby!!! :D Ill be rooting for ya! ;)

*Ljubica*
05-06-2004, 08:14 AM
Perhaps he didn't want them published - you know what David is like about keeping his private life very private? Maybe it was too special a moment for him and he wants to keep it personal? Just a thought. ANyway good luck to him today - you can do it David :)

jazz_girl
05-06-2004, 10:55 AM
Yeah, I guess you're right!
Well, I hope it doesn't rain that much today, at least I want him to play one match today! LOL

05-06-2004, 10:59 AM
Yeah, I guess you're right!
Well, I hope it doesn't rain that much today, at least I want him to play one match today! LOL

Bad news there is more rain in Rome, the way it's going the tournament mightn't finish. It looks like if they can make a final it will be best of 3 sets.

It's good to be in this thread, where there aren't so many idiots it's a great relief.

bovenbuuf
05-06-2004, 11:02 AM
well the good news is that they are playing again, the bad news is that they not play on Davids court...

sigmagirl91
05-06-2004, 11:57 AM
well, david is coming soon. by the time i make it to work, he should be playing-barring anymore rain, of course.

Yes!!!! I'm glad he won, but PLEASE play better on your next match! ;)

novanora
05-06-2004, 05:13 PM
think it's the rain problem, you can't blame a man who have to start a game for 4th times and stand the rain & cold!! The condition is quite tough to him, but he really finish it in 2 sets!! I am so glad about it!!! Come on for your next match, David!!:D:D

*Ljubica*
05-06-2004, 05:20 PM
Well done David - I'm proud of you. And yes I agree - he didn't play so well (just got home from work in time to watch) but in those conditions that can't be expected. I think he plays again after the Henman/Zabaleta match which is currently in it's third set. It will be tough - especially as Volandri has had more rest and will have the crowd behind him - but let's just wait and see.

VAMOS DAVID - BUENA SUERTE

sigmagirl91
05-06-2004, 06:11 PM
I thought that play would be suspended until the next day.....

bovenbuuf
05-06-2004, 06:18 PM
yes me too Sigma, but well tomorrow they also expect rain so I gues they are now trying to catch up, and to get back on track, it was supossed to be a Round 3 day today.. so well maybe they can finish the 3 round matches all today..

sigmagirl91
05-06-2004, 06:26 PM

It was a good performace by David in not much of a match, the match practice will be good for him either way and a semi final is a great achievement and the comeback is going very well for him.

I am not sure who I will cheer for, sure David hasn't won a title for a long time, but it's even been longer for Costa and he has less chances than David.

Though if it gets close, I hope Rosie doesn't have a heart attack.

Good to see this Tory rag, showing claycourt tennis disrepect and getting their beloved Tim in there.

Nalbandian close to major breakthrough
By Clive White
(Filed: 09/05/2004)

As John McEnroe said of the clay on the eve of yesterday's semi-finals at the Telecom Italia Masters here: "It does equalise things." And just to prove his point, David Nalbandian and Albert Costa played out a tedious match which the former would have brought to a swifter conclusion had his mastery of the game's finer skills, such as volleying, matched the bludgeoning power of his baseline game.

David Nalbandian has reached the final
As it was, we had to wait two hours 36 minutes for confirmation that Nalbandian had made it through to his first Italia Masters final, winning 6-7, 6-1, 6-4. Argentina had stolen an early lead in the day's head-to-head with Spain, but the mother country drew level when Carlos Moya beat Tim Henman's victor Mariano Zabaleta, of Argentina. 6-3, 6-4 in the other semi-final.

As much as one has to admire the stamina of these clay-court specialists - and few stay better than Costa - it did have you yearning for the green stuff - hard court if not grass. The patrons of the Foro Italico seemed to enjoy it, though, which was probably all that mattered yesterday.

By general consensus, Nalbandianis not far away from his first Slam success, having already done enough to suggest he is no one-Slam wonder following his appearance in the Wimbledon final two years ago.

The French Open this year looks a realistic target and beating Costa, the Roland Garros champion of two years ago, should be a good form guide. Costa has rediscovered his zest for the game after a visit to his therapist and he hung in here tenaciously against his younger opponent. The first two games of the third set - marathons in their own right - looked as though they might prove critical when Nalbandian failed to convert any of four break points, whereas Costa converted the second of his first two in the match.

But the Argentine's weight of shot remained the deciding factor and he broke straight back. The man from Cordoba could afford to be profligate and in the ninth game, after failing with volleys which Henman would have made with his eyes shut, he finally converted the third of 15 break points before serving out for the match.

GOOD LUCK DAVID!!! VAMOS! :woohoo: :bounce:
Today Nalbandian played a good all court game, and frequently attacked the net with success. Just need to bring those break pt. conversions up though  Moya will run around the bh to hit the forehand, which in turn plays to Davids' strengths as he will drill his bh down the line. Shuettler beat Moya, by attacking Carlos and giving him no rythem. I them David will have to take risks, and move forward alot in this match (even some Serve & Volley), attack Carlos' BH, and punish him w/ youre bh, when he runs around his backhand to hit a crosscourt fh. Carlos has the edge in the serve and forehand, but i give the edge to David in everything else (sp. Mental department). So in short he needs to: Go out there, take it to Carlos, attack his bh and move him around, and if he executes well, i think he'll win. :)
