Well so far the Italians in the main draw are as follows:

Volandri
Starace
Bracciali
Di Mauro
Seppi
Galvani

Bolelli is not in yet, but he is the next alternative and with Murray probably pulling out by the end of the week he should be ok for the main draw.

The qualifying entry list is as follows:

Bolelli at the moment
Sanguinetti
Luzzi
Lorenzi
Fognini
Cipolla
Vagnozzi

Crugnola is the 5th alt. and Galimberti 7th.

Some discussion on the chances

Vagnozzi has a tough draw, i cant see him qualifying

Sanguinetti has good chances and its more difficult for Cipolla of course as in singles he is not as good as Davide

Very difficult for Fognini. San Remo will give him some hope, but Berrer/Schuettler/Karanusic, these are tough guys aswell as his first opponent too.

I really cant see Lorenzi qualifying

Luzzi has some good chances

Crugnola wont qualify

So I think if even just 1 qualifies we should be happy :)

Vagnozzi has a good draw: he could reach final round where he would get beaten by Pavel.

Sanguinetti or Cipolla should qualify.

Luzzi is favourite in his part of draw.

Tough draw for Fognini but it's not impossible.

Good draw for Crugnola, but on clay he didn't play well, so I don't think he can do it to the main draw...

Lorenzi has no chances: Dancevic or Brzezicki will beat him.

Champion number 1

We have our first victor of the day... congrats Cipolla.. good luck against Granollers next. 62 75 against Sanguinetti... for me a little surprise even if Davide wasnt in great form.

Lorenzi has beaten Dancevic 76 64 in his first round qualifier... very good win for Lorenzi... gives him some chances now

agree about Vagnozzi

Cipolla will lose next round to Granollers Puyol

Luzzi might face Fraille in 3d round or even Portas in 2nd round can be a problem for him

Fognini will qualify against Schuettler in 3d round

agree about Crugnola

Lorenzi beat Dancevic (I wonder why you thought he'd lose against Dancevic who on clay has a terrible record this year). But yes, Brzezicki should beat him

As I said 1 qualifier and Id be happy. However Cipolla has some chances v Granolles. Fognini beat him with just 2 games lost last week... I really hope Cipolla can qualify anyway with Fognini and Luzzi :)

Crugnola lost in 3 sets :(

Vagnozzi advances 61 61 over Dustov. Good win for him and a good day for Italians so far... just Luzzi left now against Armando... hopefully he can make it 5 Italians into the 2nd quali round.

Luzzi beat Armando. Ended up going to 3 sets though, however well done to the Italians. 5 of them through out of the 7 to the 2nd quali round.

draw for the italians in main draw

Starace vs. Qualifier (can face Benetteau in 2nd round and Federer in 3d)
Volandri vs. Qualifier (can face Falla or Vassalo-Arguello in 2d round and Ljubicic in 3d, although I doubt Ljubicic can go that far)
Galvani vs. Davydenko (no need to predict the draw as he's losing)
Bolelli-Verkerk (faces Canas next round)
Di Mauro - Tursunov (can face Verdasco in 2nd round)
Bracciali - Ferrer (same as for Galvani)
Seppi - Moya (tough but not impossible)

Fognini and Cipolla through is excellent... i hope they both avoid Starace and Volandri

Starace can reach 3rd round. Volandri can even go fruther if he plays well.

Bolelli and Di Mauro can reach the 2nd round also maybe.

05-26-2007, 12:43 AM
Bolelli reaches 2nd round for sure, only if he's an idiot he loses to Verkerk :p

Di mauro has been in awful form, he'll hardy win even against a clay clown like Tursunov

Champion number 1

Starace kicks off the Italian campaign tomorrow on court 2 against Minar... lets hope he gets through safely. Schiavone is 4th on the same court.

Champion number 1

Starace def. Minar in 4 sets thus is through the first round of RG and the first Italian through. Congrats Potito!

Champion number 1
05-29-2007, 12:53 PM
Bolelli through 61 64 64 against Ververk.

Fognini out, but a brave fight from Fabio... certainly showing enough to suggest he will imrpove his ranking by the end of the year. 3-6 2-6 6-1 6-2 6-4 against Monaco.

Champion number 1
05-29-2007, 02:35 PM
Volandri through comfortably 63 75 63

Champion number 1
05-30-2007, 04:47 PM
Just a round up... Starace, Volandri, Cipolla and Bolelli were the players to make it to round 2.

In round 2 Bolelli has already lost to Canas in straight sets.

Starace has defeated Berlocq 62 64 62 and now faces Federer in round 3.

Volandri is 1 set up v Vassallo in a tie-break (was 2 breaks down so well done) but there is a rain break and considering Filo's slow starting abilities it isnt a good thing for sure.

Champion number 1
05-30-2007, 07:53 PM
Volandri won 76 75 62 to go to the 3rd round. Pippo and Poto are in the 3rd round and are likely to be the only 2 Italians at this stage, as expected when we saw the draw. Good luck to Cipolla tomorrow, but even at his absolute best he would sturggle to win 8-10 games in this Nadal encounter.

Champion number 1

The last of the singles has gone out in the round of 16. Volandri and Garbin exit. Hopefully Fabbiano and Trevisan can do some good for the juniors.

it was a good tournament anyway, much better than could have been hoped for

Champion number 1
06-03-2007, 12:20 PM
Yes well we had an expected tournament which is always better than usual. Hopefully next year we improve once again and get someone in the last 8 (men or women)

In the juniors Fabbiano is trashing Arsenov 60 20 so far.

Fabbiano 60 62.

Fabbiano was hitting with Nadal yesterday, he looks like a decent prospect.

Also watched a few games of his match today, I'll post pics when I'm back.

Champion number 1

Yes I think he has more abilities than the current junior number 1, but you cant argue with the stats of Trevisan.

Trevisan won today 63 60 in his 1st round junior match. He lost the first 3 games before winning 12 in a row. The boy obviously has talent, maybe more so than Fabbiano, we will see in the future. I hope both make a good career for themselves.

Champion number 1

Trevisan won his match 63 75

Fabbiano went out to the number 2 seed Eyserric, difficult match for 2nd round.

Trevisan was made to battle from a set down before winning the next 2 sets in the 3rd round. Now into the QF. Forza Trevisan.

Our man Matteo is in the SF of the Juniors event. He beat Ramirez today 63 76 and is living up to his number 1 ranking so far.

Trevisan exits 10-8 in the third against Jones at the semi-final stage.

the score was 6-4 6-7 10-8 to Jones

A great tournament from Matteo though and Jones has more experience (500 in the world or so) than Trevisan. However after this I would like Matteo to go into some Future events and then later on this year some challengers. First he will go to Wimbledon however and try and do well there in the juniors.
