Lakers are nothing special... they are IMO the most overvalued team in the whole NBA.... just because they have Shaq, Kobe, Payton and Malone they are not the team who wins the Championships.

Did you see already some games of the current series Houston vs LA? LMAO :rolls: they just got lucky that Houston lacks playoffs experience, they should trail the series 1-3 instead of leading 3-1... they got luck in game 1 and in game 4 with that overtime victory as Houston had a 5 point (or whatever) lead 90 seconds before the end.
An experienced team will punish the Lakers, I believe.

The Mavs' problem is that they can't rebound... just look at game 4, they got killed and outrebounded. :banghead: :banghead:

my predictions are:
- no team from the East wins it
- my current favourites for the championship are Minnesota and San Antonio

considering Minnesota: I'm glad they lead 3-1 now, I really like Kevin Garnett very much. IMO he's the most versatile player in the NBA. Just look at his stats, he's posting 20-10-5 seasons in a row, the fourth, the fifth year in a row!!!! I'm not sure, but I think nobody did that ever before... GREAT ACHIEVEMENT!
I was about damn time for Minnesota to survive the 1st round in the playoffs! couldn't do it the last years. leading 3-1 should do it now, I hope *g*

Hornets leading @Heat at halftime 46-42
(series tied at 2-2)

this could be the decisive game of this series, I see home court advantage as a big factor as every team was winning their games at home so far

if the Hornets take this game, they may go on to close out the series in game 6 at home.

about 5 seconds to play and the Spurs inbounding the ball.... somehow they get the ball to their #1 go-to-guy, Tim Duncan, and Duncan hits an incredible fadeaway jumpshot with only tenths of a second left!!!!!!!!!!

SWISH, game almost over!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, I'm thrilled right now, what an exciting finish!

Then the Lakers inbounded the ball after a timeout one last time and they also hit an incredible shot!!!!! AWESOME!!! this time it was Fisher who hit the game-winner! UNFUCKING BELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!

Lakers win a THRILLER game #5, a probably series-deciding game with 74-73.

Lakers are leading the series with 3-2 now

Why do Lakers always get these shots? :bigcry:
I don't know, they simply seem to have this luck... just think of Horry against the Kings back in 2002... the Kings were leading the series 2-1 and they were leading with two points a few seconds before the end... and then Horry made the three pointer at the buzzer to win the game for the Lakers... instead of the Kings going up 3-1 the Lakers tied the series with this lucky shot.

After the game, Hedo Turkuglo said: "It's the luckiest thing I've ever seen in my life. Vlade hit the ball and it went straight into his hands and he was wide-open. The whole game, he was going for offensive boards, but at that moment he was waiting right there. You could never see this type of game in your life."

well, I can't deny him... it was really so fucking unbelievably lucky! Horry exactly waiting there where a lose ball comes right into his hand and drains the three pointer!

Neely
05-14-2004, 04:14 AM
OK, they just showed. How did he make that last shot, while moving backwards? :worship:
yes it was a fadeaway shot, but definitely one of the most difficult ones you can actually hit... I would say odds are about 1 out of 70 that you hit a shot like this!

Don't mention that game!!!! Kings!!! :( :bigcry: :bigcry:
that was almost the same, if the Kings won this game, the Lakers never would have come back into that series... the Kings would have slammed the door at home in the next game to close out the series 4-1

LCeh
05-14-2004, 04:20 AM
I know! And if instead of hitting the ball straight out of the court, Vlade could have hit the ball upwards and when the ball comes down the game would have been over... funny how that works...

Neely
05-14-2004, 04:30 AM
for the stats:

the historical series winning probability, based on all best-of-seven series of the NBA so far, with the Lakers leading the series 3-2 (and also taking into consideration the site order) is now 71,2% in favor of the Lakers.
(59 teams had a 3-2 lead before a home game #6 and 42 of them finally prevailed)

The historical probability that the Lakers win Game 6 at home leading 3-2 is 61%.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- The final second featured two unbelievable shots. Tim Duncan's might have been better, but Derek Fisher's came last.

Fisher swished the game-winning 18-foot jumper off an inbounds pass with 0.4 seconds left, giving the Los Angeles Lakers a stunning 74-73 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night for a 3-2 lead in their second-round series.

"One lucky shot deserves another," Shaquille O'Neal said.

The Lakers head home for Game 6 Saturday night having won three straight.

San Antonio, which had a 17-game winning streak ended in Game 3, had its 17-game home winning streak snapped by this loss.

The Spurs are now on the brink of elimination, something they didn't face during championship runs last year and in 1999.

They thought they'd won it on Duncan's shot, an off-balance 20-footer while falling to his left. Duncan didn't even see the shot go in, and the Spurs started celebrating.

But after three timeouts to set up the final play, Fisher took the inbounds pass from Gary Payton, sank the shot and ran to the locker room in joy.

Officials stared at a courtside monitor to determine whether Fisher released the ball in time. As soon as they said it was good, Kobe Bryant pumped his fist and a Spurs assistant slammed his clipboard on the scorer's table. (lol   but I can understand that, it must really hurt to be beaten that way)

Stunned fans came out of their silence with boos, especially when a replay showed how close it was.

"Most times the play's not for me," Fisher said. "This is special. We almost gave this game away. I think tonight's game is indicative of how our season has gone."

damn, I can't tell you really because my method is only considering the order of wins and the site (away or home game) during a current series based on historical results and records; it is not considering the real strength of a team or looking further to the next round.

I can tell you that homecourt advantage in the NBA Finals is a very significant 16 to 4 since the introduction of the 2-3-2 format for Finals. The current situation with Games 1 and 2 on the road and Games 3 and 4 at home, leading the series 2-1 favors the Lakers to win the series with a probability of about 66%. If they would face the Indiana Pacers in the Finals who have homecourt advantage they would be statistically the underdog because the Lakers are the away team (what makes in reality no sense because I see the Western Conference and the Lakers stronger than Indiana). And exactly the opposite thing would be case if they played against the Pistons.

PennyThePenguin

okay, now I understand and hopefully have the right numbers :D

Lakers: they have 21 NBA Final appearances, winning 9 titles and losing 12 times in the Finals. Their Finals game record is 58-63

Minnesota: never have been to a NBA Final

Detroit: 3 NBA Final appearances, winning 2 titles and losing one final. Finals game record 11-5.

Indiana: just 1 NBA Final and losing (to the Lakers some years ago). Finals record is 2-4

another fact for the Lakers vs Wolves series:

Not considering win order and not considering the order of home/away games, the teams leading an NBA best-of-seven series 3-1 have a 143-7 record to close out the series.

The last team, and one of these 7 teams, who managed to come back after a 1-3 deficit were the Detroit Pistons last year against the Orlando Magic in their 1st round series.

When leading a best-of-seven series 3-2 the Lakers have a series record of 23-3 (with an active 18 series winning streak after leading 3-2).

On the other hand, the chances for the Wolves to come back have gotten better with this Game 5 win.

The team trailing a NBA best-of-seven series 2-3 with games 1-2 at home, games 3-4 on the road, and game 5 at home has a series record of 14-34 (29,2%).

T-Wolves' Cassell to miss second consecutive game

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota point guard Sam Cassell won't play in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals Monday night, missing a second straight game with back spasms and an injured hip.

Cassell scored 18 points in Game 3, but played just five minutes in Game 4. He was in street clothes for Minnesota's 98-96 victory Saturday night.

"It's killing me, personally, knowing what I can do for us against the Lakers," Cassell said Sunday.

With Cassell out, Fred Hoiberg will take over point guard duties for the Timberwolves. The Lakers lead the best-of-7 series 3-2.

Wow, the Pistons did it! With the exception of Shaq Daddy and Kobe (60% of the field goals taken by the Lakers were from these two!), they shackled the Lakers. I was anxious halfway through the game because most of the time the entry passer to Shaq went unchallenged and Shaq Daddy was wreaking havoc on Pistons. Fear not...the bench of Lakers managed only to provide 4 points and Malone was practically non existent scoringwise (he had double digit rebounds I think).

Wow again, was that the real game plan of Pistons? I mean to let the two have a field day but limit the rest of the players? It worked in some games in the regular season (Lakers vs Mavs), but I'm not sure if that can hold up.

I'd like Pistons to win but more than that I want this series to go down the wire...possibly game 7!

...I just remember, imagine if Lakers don't win this. Malone took a drastic pay cut transferring from Jazz to Lakers just to get that Championship ring....will be very sad for him.

Raptors are sucking so bad these days. Vince can't do a thing. Man... I used to go to watch them a lot, but now...

Pistons win 88-68

not this time, LA  :p

Pistons lead series 2-1

(damn, that could be almost 3-0 now and the Lakers would be in danger getting swept ;) )

AWESOME REBOUNDING JOB, Pistons!... not allowing any 2nd chance points for Shaq & Co. was IMO the primary key to this game.

Lakers got their taste of a good Pistons defense, Lakers shot just 6 for 25 (23%) from downtown and 36% overall field goal percentage.

BIG BEN - DING DONG :D

DETROIT NOW LEADS THE SERIES 3-1!!!!
Imagine, this could of been a sweep for the Pistons!! No one would've EVER predicted that. Total offensive final period! 56 pts in 4th quarter, 32 for the pistons. Boy did they do a great job of getting to the line and making their free throws!! :)Now All odds are against LA, to try to do what has never been done before. When 3 games in a row, when trailing 1-3.

that's really a big upset if Detroit wins this title!

I would have never thought it before that the Championship goes to a team of the Eastern Conference!

AWESOME, that Detroit won the Championships. That's really a big surprise for me because I would have rated the Eastern Conference hardly any chance before the begin of the playoffs!!! :bigclap: :bigclap:

You see what a great coach Larry Brown is. He is really a big one!

Only sad thing is that Payton and Malone didn't get their rings

Lakers :(:(:(
They overachieved anyway with their tactics, I didn't like the triangle-abandoning at all. I wish Jackson stayed and re-implemented it. Malone and especially Payton can go.

Still Detroit winning was quite a shock. I would have believed a loss of LA to Spurs or Wolves but not Pistons who were kind of poor until the final. Anyway well deserved for Detroit the city after a long while.

The Lakers were dominated, throughout the whole series :) They had no answer to Detroits superb defense. :D Detroit could of won this last game even easier. At times in the 4th qtr, they were up be 25, 26, 27 pts  LA was so lucky to even win a game. What a way to fire up this rivalry again :) The Lakers beat them in 7, in 88, but got swept by them, in 89, and won just a game this year :worship: So overall, in playoff series DET leads 2-1, and in games won: DET leads 11-5!!! Great Series, Pistons :woohoo: :worship: :worship: :D

I know this is late, but hey Congratulations Pistons! Showtime vs Bad Boys and the Bad Boys won convincingly. They are not the Tinseltown squad but they are hardest working players. They put up a solid rock defense and that's without commiting too many fouls, especially stupid fouls to send the Lakers to the line. And they were able to create mismatches.
Someone said here that it could have been a sweep had it not for Kobe's three-pointer in the dying minutes of game 2. Until now, I'm wondering why the heck Rip Hamilton was on Lakers go to guy, Kobe and not Tayshaun who was more defensive than the two. Doesn't matter now because they are the Champions anyway. :p
I think more than than the stats, Lakers problem was internal. Shaq was accusing Kobe of being selfish, Kobe remarked on Shaq's ballooning weight as the problem etc. etc. It just wasn't to be. Offense can win you games but defense will win you championships, that's what they say. That holds true...at least for now.

Hopefully, King and Mavs will have a great year next season. :)
