We miss you, sweetie... hope you're taking stock of the clay domination of late...

Rogi hasn't yet played on clay... he better be training hard on the stuff cos he has a LOT of competition, incl Maratski, who w dearly love to beat him [revenge for Hamburg02].

Hope Juanqui will be back and healthy too!

We were deprived of a really good SF betw them last yr in Roma.

Billabong, did you ever watch Zigzag on Fri??

Dont kick his ass to bad Roger ;) ...Save it for the real tourney ;) remember as they say its supposed to be a friendly match, so save the ass-kicking for later!! I got this news, btw, from the official website of the tournement.

05-01-2004, 01:49 PM
I'm surprised Guga was in the draw, I really don't think he's going to play in Rome after he had to retire in his match against Gaudio yesterday. I guess that will mean that Costa gets to play a lucky loser.

Where are Nalbandian and Safin in the draw, that's what I want to know. It's been more than three hours since it was made, what's preventing them posting it?

yanchr
05-01-2004, 02:55 PM
Nalby is at the very bottom of Roger's half...Safin is in the 3/4 quarter where the seed is Henman...

Dirk
05-01-2004, 02:57 PM
Saffy is in the bottom and Roger could meet David in the semis. Rainer his is in David's qrt. Moya is at the bottom too.

Billabong
05-01-2004, 03:39 PM
I hope Guga takes the best possible decision! Health comes first! If he feels he has to rest his hip, he definitely shouldn't play!

Seems like Rogi will have some tests ahead;)! If Guga plays and beat Costa, and Rogi beat Bjorkman, my #1 and #2 favorite players will play against each other !

Dirk
05-01-2004, 03:49 PM
Roger should beat Guga even if Guga does feel well. Guga is simply not the same anymore. I do hope they play though and the winner wins the event.

Mrs. B

Roger will make sure not to lose to Horna again. And i'm sure he'll be better prepared for RG this time. ;)

Dirk
05-01-2004, 09:53 PM
Roger thought too far ahead. He had no mental pacing for the event. He had no concept of it. Roger doesn't have those issues anymore. He should be fine in every slam event now.

Roger had a hit with Filippo Volandri today in front of the Colosseum. Some pictures at Getty:

http://editorial.****************/source/CFW/imageResults.aspx?s=EventImagesSearchState|1|15|1| 50786504|0|0|0|0|&p=7

It was supposed to have been Roger and Andy...no idea why that changed.

Now that Guga pulled out, Alex Corretja gets his spot in the draw and plays Costa. Wouldn't that be fun, Alex v Roger on clay?

Just checked the doubles draw, and Roger/Yves are in there as a wildcard team, but have quite a difficult path ahead of them.

I was at the tournament to day in the afternoon and I could see Roger training with two other players I did not know. It was about five o'clock, it went on until six. Pierre Paganini was with him. On the side of the ground there was Peter Lundgren, may be waiting for Marat training. They were very friendly and Roger, going away, shecked his hand warmly. Of course, it was wanderful to see him playng alive. I was very near to the ground, there were few people because the training took place in the central court and people was watching at qualifications. I could'nt believe it. At the end he signed some autographs. He looked in a good shape, running a lot and doing some good shots. I will be there for his first match.

Thanks for the report, Squirrel -- pls post more if you are going to any of Rogi's matches!!

FORZA ROGI!!

So Rogi was OK... thank God... was he staying in a different hotel then?

Rogi and Pippo... any pix?

What happened to Pandy the great Amer hero?? Too busy w the press I guess...

Not THAT easy a draw considering Rogi lacks matchplay on clay... just hope he can get into it fast!

He has Verkerk, Nalb, and other guys who've been playing fairly well on clay lately, so...

Cheering for Rogi!! I MISS him too!

Better watch out for Corretja -- look what he did to Juanqui in MC... he can be a spoiler, that Alex [I want him to do well but not vs. my guys!].

Dirk
05-03-2004, 06:56 AM
Rogifan there is no need to worry. Roger should be fine. He has been training for this and the further he goes the stronger he gets and is tougher to stop. Roger should go far here. Costa and Alex are not what they once were and Roger is stronger than ever before. He should get past them and Verkerk or Todd or Mikhail. COME ON NINJAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/otn/blobs/multi.gif

I saw the match, and Roger wasn't playing that well. He was slipping a lot on his serve, falling foward after serving which causes faults. It was very windy, and the clay was very slippery. But Bjorkman made a lot of errors, so Roger kinda got lucky there.

Let's hope he will play better next round... is it tomorrow? :)

Dirk
05-04-2004, 06:27 PM
Yes it is. Roger is playing doubles today too. I hope the conditions are better because Roger will be better tomorrow. Costa is in trouble..... BIG TIME!!!!! :fiery:

RogiFan88
05-04-2004, 07:08 PM
Well done, Rogi, it was tricky tho w the wind and the fact that you haven't played on clay since DC04 R1 in Feb so you're definitely rusty and in need of matchplay so good thing you're playing dubs w Yves.

Watch out for Albert!

FORZA, ROGI!!

Hey Tangy! Glad to see you here again... :)

I hope he can at least make the semis, cause if he is in the finals, I would think he can win it, since almost in all his tournies this year, he has got better as he goes deeper.

It's still kinda far ahead, with the conditions, and playing Costa tomorrow, it will be tough just for him to make it to the third... :(

Dirk
05-04-2004, 10:08 PM
Roger isn't feeling too great about his win. He has a huge test tomorrow. I just hope he doesn't put any stock into his feelings. He had bad session on the practice courts in Houston and that didn't mean shit to him so I hope he takes the same approach here mentally. Stay postive Roger and don't throw your blade down this time. I just hope the courts aren't slippery and Roger can play his game with no fear. I'm surprised he isn't feeling comfortable here since he is great on these courts and had plenty of time to prepare. I just hope my fears are laid to rest tomorrow.

If Rogi played well but Costa got the better of him, I don't think he will get that annoyed. It's the easy shots to finish up points, couple of them at breakpoints if I remember correctly, and he mishit those shots like crazy. I think that what grates his nerves the most. His net game was superb though, so I was wondering whether he has been training his serve/volley game during the break and his groundstrokes suffer a bit because of it. I know his net game was not that sharp before the break.

Oh well, good luck Rogi in Hamburg. Let's hope for better result there.
