Very well said as usual, Karin. It's the one we've been waiting for, and I too hope it goes the distance. Surprising that it's been this long since we've seen them meet in a final. Should be a lot of fun.

My heart does lean slightly in one direction on the result, I must admit. I love them both, although maybe not exactly 50/50 like you do. ;)

That's just retarded. THe confidence of winning this final is more important then hiding supposed "tricks" to be only unveiled at Roland Garros. I think the analogy is more relevant to an NFL team playing a limited game plan in a meaningless late-season game to hide their playoff game plan.

Yeah, it's strange, but I could see that too. Even though it doesn't make sense, as Federer can't seem to beat Nadal on clay at all, I could very well see him using this final to just try some new things out, and if they work, GREAT!, and if they don't, he'll just go back and go after it. He already seems to have gotten what he wants out of this week, getting back on his normal track the closer to the end of the tournament, so I coudl see him trying to come in a lot, and see how that all works for him. Last year, he felt RG was too heavy, so I could see him trying to do that a lot here, being as it's close to RG.

Neely
04-21-2007, 03:44 PM
I would think a Nadal loss would occupy the bigger gloating potential because it would not only mean Federer wins for the first time against Nadal on clay, but that he would also be the one to rupture Nadal's great claycourt winning streak.

Yeah Cool, so maybe is wants to lsoe in Rome, Monte Carlo and Hamburg soory but such logic is weird he would have no confidence coming into RG final knowing that he lost all matches against Rafa on clay, and I am sure Monte Carlo is his best chance because he won previous two meetings if he lose in final he will have no confidence to battle with Rafa next time, main reason he lost in Rome was confidence blowng those Mps like amateur and Roland Garros the same if before RG h-t-h would be somethig like 6-0 on clay ( 8-3 overral) Fed won't be able to show any tricks

Whatever the outcome, it would hopefully be good. Three tie breakers are too much for my nerves, but I'll take a 7:5, 5:7, 6:4 to Rog....

It could also be 6:4, 6:5 to Nadal, really - anything is possible.

I must say though, the battle of the surfaces would be a problem to market if Nadal would not be top man on Clay anymore... Rog's grass streak is untouchable for now.

If Nadal's clay streak has to end to anybody - I hope it is Feds (or Coria in a mighty comeback for the ages- but that is not likely to happen.)

Feds is playing better and Rafa has to improve his serving. He looked better in the quarters than he did today- of course the quality of Berdych could be a big part of that.

I hope for a good match with good vibes from these guys. And friendliness at the net. :)

It is like flipping a biased coin, over and over again. If the chances of landing "heads" are, say, 65%, then you know that in the long run you will inevitably get some tails. Still, on this specific match it is more likely to be heads than tails.

Thanks. I found a list of TV-channels who show it on the website of the tournament.
Several channels show it indeed but none of the ones I have. Eurosport's not showing it and the French TV-stations neither. The ones which show it in Belgium are pay-TV.

Are there soccer matches tomorrow afternoon in the UK? I know some pubs here in Brussels where they have Sky but if there is soccer, they won't show tennis, that's a sure thing.

To quote: "I fear no player, but respect all." Rafa will win in all likelihood but Roger has defended his finalist points and his billing as the 2nd best claycourter in the world. Everything else for him here on in is gravy. The more he plays Nadal, the better.

Obviously, this would be a huge win and confidence builder for Roger. And there is more pressure on Rafa. However, to be honest, given the players absent from the tourney and the players both men faced along the way, I really don't see this as a major barometer of who will win the French. All it really says to me is that both men are in nice form, and should improve as the season progresses.

Let's see in the coming weeks how these two play against the likes of Canas, Almagro, Robredo, etc...and even Fat Dave...

I´m sure Federer has ruminated very well his last defeats on clay. He´s a scholar of tennis and most surely he has pointed out for himself some kind of winning scheme against Nadal. In some of his previous defeats we have noticed a certain lack of willingness, some despondency and even indifference in Roger´s attitude. Maybe this have turned into real motivation, so we Fed and Nadal-tards will have a match full of emotion -enough for everyone to be gloating on sunday..... :bigclap: :bigclap: :bigclap:

However, his bigger rod allows him to take control of the pissing match - message boards really are my worst surface - and I am drubbed, 6-1, 6-0.

Guys I am so excited, I have waited for this since Wimbledon last year, a Federer v Nadal final!! I will be sitting on my leather sofa with a few tins tomorrow and have warned the Mrs that I might be screaming and shouting at our TV!

Please stop using these forums has a chance for slagging each other off, rather, celebrate the fact that we have 2 of tennis's best players ever locking horns!

It is time for Roger to rise, though I admit that Rafa is in deverstating form this week, but, as others have said, has he really been challenged yet?

IMO, Roger has nothing to loose. Most expect him to loose this against Rafa on Clay, so why not go all out and try some new tactics. He has the advantage of winning there last 2 encounters as well, though I appreciate these weren't on clay.

I no longer think Rafa holds anything over Roger. Somehow, don't ask me why, but I think the Gods will be Roger tomorrow. Roger to take this in 3 sets....7-6 3-6 6-4! I have put my money where my mouth is too!

Are you an alternate account for GlennMirnyi? You, too, are stating that surface type makes no difference in match-up? You don't have to look very far in the past to see that this is not true (Nadal-Berdych). Please don't get your panties in a knot and take anything I say personally. You're not Roger, what I say should have no affect on you. Btw, I'm content with both winning, as I'm a huge fan of both. Of course, if Roger is on, it'll be highly contested. If he's not, Rafa will take it.

Actually- you can feel both extremes. I did at RG and Wimbledon. Very happy for the victor- very sad for the loser. Same at Rome last year. I also felt that in Rome in 2005- since I am one of those rare Coria-tards. (Which were always few and may be on the verge of distinction with his own practically extinct career.)

The mixed faniness can be very difficult- and make one feel like Sybil.

I would like for Roger to win RG one day and Rafa to win Wimbles or a hard court GS. And it would be neat if Roger could do it against the greatest clay courter right now and Rafa could do it against the greatest player right now.

BUT, you simply cant like them both the same, thei game and personality of these gentlemen are as differet as + and -, feeeling the same way for both is like beeing an adventurer who likes to stay at home. The 2 things just dont work together.

I don't agree. You can like things equally for their various aspects. I love a variety of music- and my favorite bands can be very different. I love my two very different nephews equally - one is a plucky rascal and the other is a sweet 5 year old intellectual. My favorite books can be very different from one another. My good friends have very different personalities. And heck, I was a huge fan of both Duke and UNC in the early 1990s- which is very good practice for divided loyaties in sport.

The worrying thing as a federer fan is that he's not progressing in Clay against Nadal after Rome I thought he was getting close than he loses RG..having watched this performance I think we're back to square 1!....Federer needs I clay court specialist coach (all due respect to Tony) he hasn't done much for Federer, I have a feeling he's coaching Federer exactly the same way he did lendl ....

Federer has to go back to basics with nadal, more net approach, more evenly destributed serve and polish his forehand again

So that'll either be Roast Pork with a Beer or GOAT Cheese with a perfect Red Wine to match! Ah - both are good.
Very, very GOOD.

Yeah people - tomorrow is FedalTard's Party Time!

The menu has been printed for the party- Sangria and the spiciest paella that my guests can handle. :woohoo:

( :secret: I'm also serving Swiss chocolate and champagne for dessert though. It's equally lovely.)

I just get angry sometimes because I really like Federer but cant stand his fans on this site with an unrealistic view about clay season and specialy about Nadal. Federer got almst as many votes as Nadal, cant you all accept Federer is a major underdog in clay against Nadal? Cant you accept that no matter how Federer plays on clay Nadal is better? I think most people know that Federer is much better on hardcort and grass but Nadal is the king on clay.

I can't speak for all Federer fan but for me the only time I watched Roger player against Rafa on Clay and thought, fair enough, Federer threw the kitchen sink at him and nadal threw the bathtub was Rome ...that's it that's the first (and sadly) only time I actually thought that Roger wasn't contributing to his own demise on a clay match against Nadal....

I think nadal is great at what he does, but I just get the feeling the Roger makes it that little bit easier for him than it could be...

take the 1st set 3rd game i think it was after a 3 stroke hit federer had an open court all he had to do was finish an easy forehand winner, and he misses, his unforced error tally is just too high

That is because unlike last year, Fed fans have adjusted their expectations.

Yes thats true. Mind you it would be poetic justice in a sense if that were to actually happen.

I admit to no association with people who seem shocked when Rafa loses on hardcourts.

That being said, I think he's actually getting BETTER on clay. Its a shame that Roger played such a poor second set. He seemed intimidated - which, of course is Rafa's intent - its just I didn't expect it to actually work.
