Congrats to Fed- another great accomplishment already. I can't wait to see what the next chapter will entail. :)

Nice accomplishment (although I think this thread is better fitted to the Fed forum).

If you're a moderator you can do it. I've got nothing against.

I think Connors's record is safe here.

No one plays that amount of tennis anymore, so pretty much. Still, Fed should hit the 800 mark if he plays until 2012, as he plans to...unless he goes into steep decline.

in a few years time we'll see rafa's name there!!! just wait for 4 more years!!!!

Connors had been winning the matches in years 1970-1996 :) Federer won his first ATP match in 1998, so he isn't even in the half of Connors' way.

Seems appropriate here, imho, as it is a significant milestone. :)

Congrats Roger.

I can't see anyone ever matching Connors' numbers again, either.

Just pre-empting, because there will be posters who think this is not significant enough except to a fan.

well, but he'll definitley break into the top ten, and i see a 80% probability of breaking into the top 5.

Sometimes I feel that way myself about Federer posts.... it's always a hard line to draw, since the life/career of the No. 1 player has a certain "general" relevance. :)

That depends.
It could be just three. You know, with winning MC, Rome and Paris :D

well, it'll be soon. wouldnt it be ironic if he surpassed moya by beating him?

Yes
Likewise, I was hoping that he would have to beat Roddick to overtake Connors's record for weeks #1.

Bjorn Borg called Federer to thank him for beating Sampras in 2001 and stopping Sampras from going to win #5.

THAT is irony. Maybe more ironic later this July, we'll see.

:haha: I love it!

Well, Federer won't be receiving a gift basket from Borg if he wins this time (very likely). If he wins RG too (not so likely) it will be even more painful...

Interesting, though.... if you combine singles and doubles wins, look how close these two are:

Connors 1395
McEnroe 1391

Here are numbers of wins including singles and doubles also in Challengers, Futures and Satellites. But only active players.

That's indeed very interesting to see and tells quite something about Johnny Macs performances in the doubles. Thanks for bringing it up :)

Congrats on the milestone Roger. Federer still needs 19 more wins to catch the living legend Gilbert, however. :)

Is Federer the second quickest player to reach 500 wins? I, of course, assume Borg was the fastest.
