Phew.

Ljubo wasn't in it in the first set.
Ljubo wasn't really either in the second set, but then showed some fire halfway through.
Gasquet's BPs conversions are :o and his mental toughness is still in question.
Nevertheless, it was a sensational match.

shitty match from Ivan...always played down in the 3rd.

amazing cross court passing shot at mp for Gasquet

My most enjoyable match in MC thus far.........especially as I like both guys a lot. Gasquet:hug: I didn't think he could close out Ljubicic especially after losing the 2nd set. Well Done. Ljubicic:hug: Sorry.

Best match I have seen in a long time, Gasquet had his full arsenal of shots on display: fhs, bhs, touch, great net play by both players and Ivan more than played his part.

This gives me hopes that Gasquet can still become a great player.

Pathetic you could also say that it was a great match of those 2 but i can't blame you that you're a fan of Nalbandian, that must be hard to see that it's a normal thing that Nalby loses to players like Sanguinetti

Adler
04-19-2007, 02:58 PM
For me it was quite unexpected. I thought Richie won't stand a chance, and his serve and FH still need some improvement

04-19-2007, 02:58 PM
Losing the second set is fast becoming Gasquet's signature result.

I mean Nalbandian has the signature first set loss . . .

And Richie has the signature second set loss . . .

And Blake has the signature final set loss.

Well he got it done in the end but my word! he made a meal of it - another second set tiebreak lapse.

Althogether a very entertaining match, though - a LOT of good points in there, especially in the final set.

Richard will unfortunately be knackered tomorrow though so Ferrero has a major chance to make the semis

Wow! What a nailbiter. I think Gasquet played better overall but was awful on the important points (5/18 BPs converted :o) while Ljubo was solid on the big points, thus making the match as close as it was. Unbelievable pass on MP. :D

I seriously doubt Gasquet has any gas left in the tank for the next round. :help:

it's kind of funny that ljubo playing like shit can still do well on his least favorite surface against someone who is playing on their home turf (not to mention that this was ljubo's second 2 1/2 hour match in less than 24 hours)

This match is a disgrace for Gasquet in the first place,he let a clay clown to take a set of him.

You should be ashamed of yourself Ivan, fighting so hard in the second for just letting it go in the third.Even had 4 gp's in that last game.

Well done Richie! :yeah:

I wish his coach would tell him not to be so defensive on key points. He has the game to execute controlled aggression but he seems to become too defensive when things are not going his way. When he does get aggressive, he starts shanking. I guess matches like these will allow him to find the right balance.

I was actually quite surprised at how well Ivan was playing in the 2nd and 3rd set.

Ljubicic was good at the net most of the match, all we been hearing during Miami how Ivan has the best ball toss and its hard to predict his serve, but leave it to Jazar to easily dismiss that from his living room couch. :wavey:

any idiot can see that ljubicic has serving almost exclusively to gasquet's backhand. take the last game for example. about 5 or 6 deuces, and on the deuce court ljubo seved downed the t every time except about 1, and he missed almost all of those serves as well. on the as court, he was going out wide all the time. everyone knows it

Gasqust has been on court as long as Ljubo. Remember the 3 hour and 20 minute match Gasquet played and then came back in less than 24 hours to win another. Ever wonder why it APPEARED that Ljubo played badly - maybe it had something to do with the way his opponent played. Ljubo's fans seem to whine as much as he does - so classy.

ALLEZ Gasquet!!
