ATP Monte Carlo 3rd round - Berdych def Robredo 1:6 6:3 6:2

04-19-2007, 10:21 AM
Berdych didn't exist in the first set and he could have been bagelled. Then, he lifted his game big time and ripped Robredo a new one.

If Berdych can play like he did in the last two sets, be careful Rafa. You may win, but you're to have a hard time for sure.

04-19-2007, 10:24 AM
Berdych is coming thru, he is finding his form

well done

Rafa = Fed Killa

Congrats Berdych.

I want him to play Rafa in the semis. Rafa needs a tough match to get ready for Djoko in the finals.

04-19-2007, 10:24 AM
Okay I am not Berdych's biggest fan but I am very impressed with the way he turned it around and figured out what he needed to do out there to win today - he changed his style of play, played a much more all-court game with some wonderful forays into net to finish points off, and really showed how he CAN play when he mentally stays in the moment and employs all his weapons to good effect.

24/32 points won at net, most of those in second and third sets. Showed some nice touches and played much more attacking tennis rather than grinding from the baseline.

I wish he would demonstrate that mental commitment and style of play more often, it's very entertaining.

Nice he could turn that around in front of his parents.

As for Robredo, he had a ton of chances early in the second to keep Berdych down and failed to take them, simply enough - and then found himself outclassed by a player who was playing much better.

Awesome play, Berdych, especially the net work in the final 2 sets :yeah:

Sorry to see Tommy go though.

The Berdman is finally finding some form.

04-19-2007, 10:27 AM
Boredo tunred " I Suck" mode and it was all over

but Congrats to Tomas he played great tennis in 2nd and 3rd set

I just want him to play Nadal in semis :)

04-19-2007, 10:27 AM
Berdman :yeah:

Let's just hope it is not a flash in the pan and another misleading indication of good form :help:

He better keep this up- just one more match to win and then....... hhmmmmmmm roasted pork in claypot?

04-19-2007, 10:28 AM
congrats tomas!:!!

04-19-2007, 10:30 AM

They might as well shut this joint down if he beats Rafa in the semis.

04-19-2007, 10:31 AM
nooooooooooooooooooo

04-19-2007, 10:32 AM
Yes! Boredo goes down.

I still can't believe how Berdych lost to Roddick on clay. :help:

04-19-2007, 10:32 AM
:scared: :scared: :scared: Rafa's nightmare is back  Nice win Tomas :yeah:

04-19-2007, 10:34 AM
:haha: They might as well shut this joint down if he beats Rafa in the semis.

04-19-2007, 10:34 AM
Nice fightback from Berdych from what could have been an embarassing loss. I'm liking the chance of a beatdown of Moonballing King in the semi.

04-19-2007, 10:34 AM
Well done Tomas, but I have the feeling he will screw this up against Soderling :help:

04-19-2007, 10:41 AM
Tomas :woohoo:

Very impressive win and nice bounce from the 1st set. He should beat Soders, but anyway it'll be a good match with 2 of my favorite players :)

04-19-2007, 11:11 AM
Good win for Berdych but damn it Tommy! He had a decent draw and I was hoping for a Spanish SF.

04-19-2007, 11:11 AM
 Must have been quite a match! I'm so happy now  Way to go Tomas! :rocker2: It's so nice coming home from school and opening the computer to find out such good news :p

I hope Tomas will win against Robin, 'cause a semi against Rafa would be...interesting to say the least :p :woohoo:

If only Djokovic wasn't choking, he'd be a top5 player tonight. :awww:

Funny how Fed fans always seem to be happy when Berdych plays well, more so when he is in Nadal's section of a draw.

Robredo was quite defensive and Berdman took advantage of this and I thought after he blew those 3 break points in the 2nd set, that he was more than likely to lose in 2 sets, then once he got the break at 5-3. Then it was his match to lose and thankfully he didn't do it.

The weather changed and it got more overcast making it a bit heavier and that was quite impressive from the Berdman.

04-19-2007, 11:38 AM
Great win Tomas!!! :worship:

04-19-2007, 11:38 AM
Good win from Berdych, hope he builds on this and play well again next round.

04-19-2007, 11:51 AM
Robredo has no way of turning a situation around against a proper player like Berdych.

Clown of the top 10 loses early again...on his best surface too.

I'm not shocked at the result as such as I felt before the match went off that Berdych had a good chance of winning.

However, I left the match with the Czech down 1/6 and seemingly having no opportunities to get back into the match and come back a couple of hours later to find that he won...very surprising! Well done Tomas :bigclap:

Robredo is hopeless when his opponent comes to the net off a good approach shot...lacks the power to hit penetrating passes.

04-19-2007, 12:12 PM
Tomas was just due to make a run imo

that was good power tennis that we're used from him in the last 2 sets

04-19-2007, 12:23 PM
Rafa isn't scared of Berdych on clay.

Rafa isn't scared of Berdych on clay.

Obvious you never saw the Bĺstad match then? Nadal got the W that day, but he was let off the hook.

I don't see that happening, though. Raf's form is just TOO GOOD right now.
But oh yes, If he wins against Soderling, I'm taking a day off (eh, Saturday?) - I won't be missing THAT match, no way!

Great job, Tomas! :hatoff:

Bravo Tomas :bigclap: Finally good tournament in 2007 :)

04-19-2007, 12:50 PM
Well Done Berdych:hug: Sorry Tommy.

04-19-2007, 12:52 PM
Well done Tomas, I wasn't expecting him to win this match. Finally a good result after Australia. :)

Nice while it lasted for Tommy- pity not to get any additional blog entries.

Good win for Berdych, who is long overdue to get something going. Continuing to find his form, he's one to keep an eye on for sure.

Rafa isn't scared of Berdych on clay.

I am very happy that Piggy might just get a chance to battle against Birdy after all. Cakewalk draws aren't for him. I like him against players who challenge him and make him stronger.

I was very disappointed that Safin left MC early. I was hoping that Rafa might encounter him. No SAfin, no Murray, at least there must be Berdych, no?

BTW, whats RAfa's record against Safin, anyone?

who cares about djokovic right here ?? and stop sayinbg he choked he didn't actually he lost to a better player on clay that's all

An excellent result for Tomas, and a much needed boost of confidence. Best part was that he seemed to be thinking there. Now hopefully he can take out the Toad, a very close match where any result is possible.

04-19-2007, 06:14 PM
Well done Tomas :worship: ! I really want you to do well on clay so you can take care of a little problem for us ;)

04-19-2007, 06:27 PM
I didn't expect Tomas to turn it around but I'm glad he did. But tomorrow's match against Soderling is no walk in the park. He'll need to make a stronger start and just keep going...

04-19-2007, 06:38 PM
Great stuff Berdman. I was beginning to lose hope a little after the dismal start to this year, but he's looking good so far here. Keep your focus against Soderling, definitely a winnable match.

04-19-2007, 06:51 PM
Nice comeback Tomas! :)
Glad to see you achieve a good win at last!
Now it's time to show some consistency...

04-19-2007, 07:29 PM

Always good to see spectacular shotmaking prevailing over boring moonballing.
