An exciting and enjoyable match to watch!

Chela put up a good fight, especially in the first set - it wasn't as easy for Raf as the points may suggest. But it was clear throughout the match who was going to win this...

Rafa put up a clear demonstration of power and dominance. Great passing shots, and a lot of serve-volley at the net, too! :worship:
It's pretty clear to me - this guy can do just about ANYTHING on clay. I can't see anyone withholding him from this title.

Nadal is not even human on clay. I've long forgotten just how good he is on this surface. Set 2 game 2 anyone? His backhand on the dead run passing shot...chasing the backhand overhead smash for a forehand winner...I'm just amazed at how well he's playing--the clear favorite.

If you want to base projection solely on their R2 performances, Roger doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning.

Good job it's about more than R2 matches - but Nadal has hit the ground running much better than Rogelio

Awww, I missed watching the fish in water so much. :hearts:

Very, very strong performance from Rafa. Trademark incredible passing shots on both wings and the drive volley seems to have become Rafa's favourite shot.

However, he will need to be careful with his first serve percentage, 48% in the first set was simply awful. There was especially woeful serving from both guys at the end of the first set, with Rafa Dfing to get broken when serving for the set :tape: and Chela DFing three times in the next game. :tape:

My commentator was absolutely crazy. He's like a wannabe poet or writer or something and keeps talking in metaphors, idioms and proverbs. He's both a disaster and a hoot. :haha:

Well, he may play ugly tennis--though I'm not quite sure what that means--but that doesn't detract from his talent at the sport. He does what he has to do to win. I, for one, think his dead run passing shots are quite beautiful (not to sound gay, but it's an antonym of what you described it as). Also, who says Nadal can't volley?

Yes, Chela had no trouble at all returning his serve today, it was so predictable, always to the backhand side. And his 1st serve percentage was relatively low. But he made up for it with great shots :)

An amazing match by Rafa, especially as Chela was playing good tennis. (With the exception of the double faults!)

I'm trying to decide whether I had just forgotten how good Rafa was on clay, or if in fact he has even improved? He looked as if he was using some of his new HC weapons out there making his clay game even more destuctive.

There's a long way to go yet though in the clay season, we've only seen him play one match...I just can't wait until the next one! (Shame it's not against Safin and that Nalbandian has also been knocked out)

The extreme enthousiasm in this thread matches the extreme disappointment about Federer's performance against Seppi. Come on people! After IW and Rafa's performance against del Potro, everyone thought the Miami title was a sure thing. Most people said there was no way Djokovic could beat him in such form. Look what happened.

Of course Nadal is going to reach the SF without any worries but I would not rule out Berdych playing out of his mind and beating him on clay in combination with Rafa's serve working like it did today. So let's not get superconfident.

Federer is going to be just fine! I can't see anyone stopping him in his half of the draw. They are all familiar foes (aka pigeons) except maybe Andreev and ...Lee .

Djokovic 4-0
Ljubicic 11-3
Ferrero 6-3
Ferrer 5-0
Gasquet 5-1

A reasonable and intelligent post in this thread. Unbelievable.

Talk about lacking imagination he has given me that same bad rep twice :help: :haha:

I got something a little more colorful

Cañas def. Federer...03-27-2007 04:04 PM JMPower fuck yourself you desperate dickhead !!

hahaha keep in mind this guy is 31 years of age. Great use of alliteration, though!

How the hell is anyone supposed to beat this guy on this surface ? How ? This clay season is so over :o

If someone is really really really really...really really on, hitting the line cleanly left and right, I think Rafa can lose. Who is willing to step up to the plate? From what we've seen today, his fitness hasn't dimmed like many people had suggested and his passing shots are really twice as good/spectacular than on a hard court.

Its clay season, my dear. Civil isn't permitted at MTF during clay season.

Disappointment is in the air. There were a number of people who thought that Nadal would "slump" into the clay season.

Huh. Not me, I bet you know!

Okay, Me. In. Serious. Mode. If anything, I think being CIVIL is just one of those things all of us should appreciate. I guess that's exactly the reason why I appreciate the two of my fav players as much as I in fact do! :hearts:

Get your facts straight, he was serving for the set at 5-2.

Geez, you must be the most panicky person on MTF. Rafa played one match, ONE. Nothing is certain in sport and there's a very long way for Rafa to go.
Spot on. :yeah:

Is it a coincidence, or has Berdych suddenly started winning matches again because he would fancy breaking Rafa's streak? :p

Speaking of ugly, if that's you in the picture, I'd stay away from using that word under any circumstances.
