:hatoff: to JCF. He needed a win (much like Nico) and he did very well. Good luck to him for the rest of MC. :)

Lately, I've noticed a pattern in Ferrero's results. He crushes his opponents in the initial rounds, and then bombs out of the tournament when you least expect it.

I wonder if he was fired up by being placed on an outside court.

I guess you could say that about his run in Acapulco but in Valencia he was ill. Did you expected him to beat Nadal and Canas in IW and Miami?

He took his anger, with the oragnisers, out on Massu. ;)

It looks like all the one-sided matches have been moved out there.

Nope, wasn't expecting him to win these matches. Canas was a normal result. But the way he went out to Nadal in IW was pretty shocking (also considering he beat Mayer 6-0 6-2 in R1), even though you could say he was lucky to beat Chucho in R2.

Juan Carlos Ferrero is the epitome of inconsistency.

Last week they took Ferrero as a had-been goner.

Now, he's thrashing opponents on clay. What gives?

I don't get it. But I'm happy for him, congrats Ferrero.

I'm worried about Nico. I mean, it's not THAT strange that he loses in big tournaments (his record in TMS and GS is way poor), but lately he's not only losing, he's being stomped. Since his loss against Murray in Wimbledon 2006, i think he is losing his "mojo". Massu has been demolished by Djokovic, Horna, Safin, Andreev, García-López, Lalo, and now Ferrero. Where's 2003 & 2004 Massu?? I think there's still time for a change...

Federer - Ferrero on clay? Hmm...

The JCF-Federer matchup is always exciting. Their rallies have a nice flow to them, which is what you'd expect when the best forehands in the game go head to head. They've only played once on clay before, at Rome 2003, but that was an incomplete match with JC retiring after the first set. Hopefully both guys can win their next two matches, but Ferrero moreso. I'm confident Federer will make it, but JCF is so mentally volatile these days.

04-19-2007, 12:52 AM
Ferrero is weird. So is Massu for that matter. It would be really nice if Ferrero can keep up this level of play because he looked like his old clay court king self. Ferrero in that form can compete with anyone on this surface.

Ferrero circa 2000-2003 was awesome on clay. I love his power brand of clay court tennis. Very fun to watch, especially when his forehand is locked in! Seriously, that shot was like a machine.

I wonder whether Massu was injured or sick or simply outplayed, but a great result for JC anyway!!
Having watched JC's match on Monday, he was moving very well and his winners were well-timed and sharp.

Hope he can make it 3-1 against Andreev today! :)

uuuh? his fh did not change at all in power, likely he has less confidence with shot

so maybe before when he risked shots on the lines he did many than now
which is logic , before he was number one and a regular top ten player now

but that happens to every player when loss confidence.

No Massu is not injured. I saw him play in Montreal and Cinci 2005 and honestly after losing the first set in those matches he just gave up. Horrible body language etc etc. So I will make an assumption that happened again. It seems to be a pattern at times.
Good for JCF though. Maybe he will get on track again.

Trust me, his forehand has been a shadow of what it used to be.
