Monte Carlo R2: Djokovic def Gaudio 6-1 3-6 6-1

04-18-2007, 09:58 AM
After a dominant first set, Novak seemed to lose his brain for the second. Gaudio took advantage of that and his play improved, but luckily Novak refocused to take the third.

Next is Benneteau/Ferrer. :)

Gaudio would have won if he continued to play like he did in the 2nd set.

The game is still there, but he simply doesn't have brains and fitness to compete at this level right now.

He's going to drop in the rankings a lot and I think playing a challenger would do wonders for him right now.

About Djoko, he was able to play worse than Federer yesterday, especially in the 2nd set. Play like that against Ferrer and bye bye!

Sloppy from Nole at times in that second and at times in the third sets when trying to close it out.

But still had far too much for Gaudio when he wasn't mentally grinding the gears.

Nice comeback from Gaudio in the second set, but it soon became clear that he couldn't keep it up.

Two breadsticks by Nole... impressive, even if he wasn't playing as well as I hoped/feared. Feds, watch your back!

Djokovic main problem was serv in that second set. He just couldnt serve well and it made him angry...that lead him to insane number of unforced errors...which lead to even worse serv again. When he calmed down everything was ok, but this was very poor performance by him indeed.
Since this is his first match on clay this year I uderstand he cant play some incredible tennis yet, but I hope he will improve as tournament goes on ;)

Nole :)

Seems like a lot of the big boys are having bouts of clayitis at the moment.

Way to self-destruct in the third set Gaudio :help: . Still, good that he won a set. Overall good match from Nole, too many ues in the second set but still pretty good.

Wtf kind of scoreline again.

04-18-2007, 10:23 AM
Bravo Nole:)

Bad 2. set, in the first game of third set on 30-40 Nole said loudly " I'm not playing anything, I dont feel the ball, fuck", then he serve ace 211km/h and that is a turning point of the match...
He can play better but it's the first match on clay!

 Gaston Good to see he made it a 3 setter.

04-18-2007, 11:31 AM
Djokovic played good match but against Ferrer it would be much harder task

04-18-2007, 11:32 AM
Bad luck, El Gato.

Glad to see it made it to three sets, although I was still hoping for a bit extra from Gaudio. Keep improving mate, we need you out there.

Nole is so good.

04-18-2007, 02:45 PM
never in doubt
anyway, it's quite surprising Gato's taken a set off Djokovic

04-18-2007, 03:12 PM
It is a good thing seeing Gaston winning a set, hopefully he will come back fully later in the season. Now Nole will need to be very careful next round and not think about Federer yet.

04-18-2007, 06:15 PM
just giving the crowd their money's worth. if it had been an unimportant tournament with no spectators nole would have won it in 2

04-18-2007, 06:20 PM
Djole :yeah: :woohoo: :D

a little sloppy, but it's his first match on clay )

04-18-2007, 06:23 PM
oh come on Gaston, didnt he get to the semis here last year? hes going way down the rankings :(

Scoreline wouldnt suggest but Ferrer didnt play anything special today.
I think Novak will beat him easily

04-18-2007, 07:12 PM
Bad, bad match

04-18-2007, 07:13 PM
That match.

Glad Nole walked away with the W, though.

04-18-2007, 07:20 PM
Not a good match from Nole, but a win is a win. He'll need to pick it up to against Ferrer.

04-18-2007, 08:28 PM
Well done Nole, great win :) :)

04-18-2007, 11:18 PM
Well done Nole!!! Hopefuly he'll play much better vs. Ferrer. Oh, I just want to see Nole finaly beats Federer!!! But even if he doesn't succeed in that, he'll be at least #6 from next monday :-)

P.S. If Nole wins Monte Carlo, he could climb to unbelievable #3 :wow:

Ole Nole!

"I felt pretty comfortable on the court," said Djokovic, who won the Miami Masters earlier this month. "I felt like everything depended on me. Typical humble Novak:rolleyes:

Gaudio doesn't have the form or the belief at this stage to win these kinds of matches, but he showed something in this match and the end result was not in doubt.

Good test for Nole and Ferrer won't be giving as many presents today.

You obviously don't know shit about him.
