Meanwhile, maybe it would have been a better idea to play Tunis this week, instead of Rome qualis. So maybe one or two challengers, to get some rhytm and wins, combined with smaller ATP-events which he can enter directly.
Very good points made. I think he should probably have played Tunis, and should play Bordeaux next week, but he probably believes he is above challengers, which he has shown he is, but not always having played tough ones like those. What he needs mostly is matches and confidence as you put, and he isn't getting them losing r1 and r2 in ATP events. At the same time, you only learn to beat the best by playing them. It's a tough process to get acclimated into the ATP level and really the talent difference is so great, he will figure it out eventually, but it may be too soon right now for him. We'll see how he does this week in Munich.
