Re: Wimbledon

Very unfortunate draw for Mannarino/Pouille, obviously. Could have won a few rounds with a better draw.

Benneteau/ERV likely to face Pospisil/Sock again. Hopefully they will win again.

Excellent opportunity for Koolhof/Middelkoop to win their first GS match as a team (and first for Koolhof, full stop).

Bury/Zelenay have already beaten them easily once (6-3 6-2 Marseille 2016).

It's still a good draw and great chance. They did just win a Challenger on grass too. Obviously they're not a fantastic team, but neither are Bury/Zelenay.

Re: Wimbledon

I just heard that first round of doubles will be best of 3 sets because of weather! And 2nd rounds will be best of 5.

He seldom plays doubles at Wimbledon because he reckons he can go deep in singles and wants to save his energy. He has played in the MD in singles since 2002, but only competed in doubles five times. Contrast that to the other Grand Slams, where he has only missed the doubles tournament once or twice.

Re: Wimbledon

It does seem like a missed opportunity, but it's also interesting to see how he prioritizes. On average he (only) wins two matches in the Wimbledon singles draw, which also means that his singles run is almost over by the time doubles is even played.

Jeez, thanks. Now that you've mentioned I recall a couple of years being disappointed as he didn't enter but I didn't make a link of it being a recurring decision in his scheduling. As mentioned it really feels like a missed opportunity specially this year with R1 matches being down to BO3. Of course he couldn't possibly know that but it's always something possible at Wimby.
All this the year he just won his first slam
Although I think the deadline had already expired by the date of his win with Marc (who's gonna have to play with Ramos lol)
