Leander Paes' Grand Slam win no big deal for US media

Indian Media is Funny!
US Media wouldn't have it Big even Bryans had won year slam. Doubles is not a craze everywhere like in India.

Doubles is not a craze in India. We only have doubles players doing well, so most of the tennis coverage in Indian media is restricted to doubles. If we get a top singles player, doubles will be put aside. In a GS, Somdev reaching R2 gets about the same sized article(in TOI) as Paes/Bhupathi/Bopanna reaching the SF.

If you look into the number of followers in twitter, then doubles players like Rohan Bopanna or Mahesh Bhupathi have more followers than Somdev Devvarman, who is a singles player. That should tell you that people in India have more craze for Doubles/Doubles Players right now.

Firstly, reread my post.

Doubles is not a craze in India by any means. Indian players get coverage, not doubles tennis as a whole. A GS doubles final without Indian players does not get much coverage. If you look at matches of the same round of the same event, all with no Indians, the singles would get more media coverage than doubles.

Secondly(less importantly), all their twitter followers need not be Indian.

Yeah... but people here enjoy doubles more. Somdev is infact a very good singles player, but how many have watched his CWG triumph or his final win in Asian Games?

Moreover, you can't compare singles and doubles, many in this sub-forum(doubles) choose to come here because they like doubles more than singles, and not that they don't have top singles player of their country.

You can see people as crowd in Doubles matches, even when there is a singles match going on. It's just that what people like.
