Re: Australian Open Doubles Draw

I So hope Paire/Thomaz will win this! I saw the last part of today match, and you can see they were having so much fun, even with the crowd. Great win vs an experienced doubles team like Rojer and Qureshi! Already in the QF.

Next is Lopez/Gruntolers. Another good experienced team, from spanish david cup team, and specially a great doubles player like Marc. Hard, but doable for the Franco-Brazilian team. Allez/Vamos!

Re: Australian Open Doubles Draw

Its funny how guys like Bellucci/Paire, Baghdatis/Dimitrov who never take doubles seriously are beating these doubles specialists left and right.

Bryans had a set point in the first set. In the TB, Chardy doublefaulted twice, but C/K were the much better team and they managed to win it easily.

Chardy played really well towards the end of the first set and he continually out-volleyed the Bryans. But this didn't last long. He was the weak link for most of the remaining match and Bryans closed it out easily.

There was a 42 stroke rally when Bryans were serving for the second set which C/K won.

Easy win for Granny/Lopez.
I really disagree and would say Kubot was the weak link in the final set. Jérémy produced some great winners while Lukasz was largely invisible. I also don't think it was Jérémy's fault that Kubot got broken.

I was really pleased to see how much Jérémy has improved as a doubles player, because he really used to be all over the place. The Bryans were more consistent though and played some smart decisions towards the end. Too bad the team with the obnoxious on-court attitude had to win.

Chardy had one really good game in the final set. It was his serve(2-2 or 3-3, not sure), he hit 3 great FH winners from the baseline. Other than that his level was much lower than what it was in the first set, IMO.

I agree here. I think C/K have improved a lot as a team too.

I have always wanted Kubot to concentrate on his doubles career. Maybe C/K can become a consistent top doubles team. But I guess that is far from happening.

I think the Bryans were smart to target Jérémy when at the net. He hit some bad volleys but I would call them forced errors. Kubot was more consistent but also contributed less, I think.

I think Kubot is a good partner for Jérémy. He is someone who takes doubles very seriously, has good tactical insights and complements Chardy nicely. It's a much better choice than previous partners such as Simon, Andreev and Gicquel.

What really surprised me was how well Chardy was volleying towards the end of the first set.

Haven't seen Chardy play before Kubot, so can't comment on that. I really liked the Kubot/Marach team. It was a shame they split. (Sure some people could make the argument that Kubot was the much better player in the team but I never agreed with that). Hopefully C/K stick together for a while. Though it may be tough with both concentrating on singles.

Re: Australian Open Doubles Draw

I think that Bolelli/Fognini are very underrated, remember that they already reached a SF in 2011 Us Open (they lost in tre sets to Melzer/Petzschner).

For me no surprise they beated Bhupathi/Nestor.

Re: Australian Open Doubles Draw

I can't believe the Dutch team is in the QF I am not surprised that Sijsling does well in doubles; it fits with his game. But Haase has really never done well in doubles except for the odd weak event (and always with a better partner).

I certainly hope they'll reach the final, facing either Granollers/Lopez (who I'd like to win) or Bellucci/Paire.

I can dream too.
