This is actually heavily discussed over at tf. So you can look for info on there. India will probably take place with Sania Mirza +1. I hope Belarus plays.

There are only 16 spots. Why would they get entry?

Re: 2012 London Mixed Teams

because they are the best looking

unfair there are only 16 spots though. easily could be extended to 32 and one of the extra teams could get a medal

Re: 2012 London Mixed Teams

16 teams? I wonder how they're going to determine which countries play, much less the teams, because there are a lot of players who have been talking about mixed doubles.

Andy Murray: 2012 Olympic gold and silver medalist. US Open Champ. Wimbledon champ. Never been prouder of him.

The Brian Baker Story. Proof that truth is stranger than fiction... until Hollywood buys the rights and proceeds to keep screwing the script up.

Can't believe they didn't go with Berdych and Kvitova.

But then at least Tomas can concentrate more on mens doubles and singles now.

Berdych is gonna catch another Olympics before he calls it quits and Stepanek is the better doubles player. Sound decision.

the really puzzler is kviotva. Radek has so many better options to choose from

but apparently petra approached radek and he said yes

besides if petra is serious about getting a medal in this then her chances are far better with radek who outclasses tomas as a doubles player by a mile

im not even sure they should send tomas in doubles when there are better options available

Tomas and Radek are the best doubles team we can possibly put together. We have doubles specialists but all of them play with foreign partners. Radek and Tomas are the only ones who are at least a bit used to playing together because of Davis Cup. Also way more likely to overcome the pressure.

miles ahead of Nadal in esthetic terms, complete with a never-failing trademark grunt. A legend.

Re: 2012 London Mixed Teams

I kind of think it's ridiculous that Mixed Doubles has been let into the Olympics - it's only played at the slams and even then not by the top players and a bit of a joke. An Olympic gold medal in most sports is the most prestigious title you can win and with the mixed doubles you could have some real underachievers win this. That's a problem with tennis being in the Olympics anyway as it's not the highest award in tennis and you've had people like Massu win gold in the past - but at least with the doubles & men's singles it'll be a strong competitive field - with mixed doubles you'll have random odd pairings that never normally play together and end up winning a really important medal.

Why they let it in and yet sports like squash etc. which get very little attention anyway weren't allowed in I don't understand. Mixed doubles is fun to watch but not played enough competitively for it to be given prestigious titles. Someone with a mixed doubles grand slam isn't taken that seriously - a gold medal will also now be devalued a bit in my eyes.

All that said, the Czech, USA, France & Germany teams will probably be the strongest with good male & female players (if they all enter):

France: Gasquet/Bartoli - question mark over whether the French Federation will allow her to go given her Fed Cup situation but if she does then it's a good pairing on grass...
USA: Isner/Williams - I know Serena talked about partnering Roddick but given his form she should really go with John. Mardy could work but I'd stick with John & his serve on grass.
Czech: Stepanek/Kvitova - great team - a great doubles player & a wimbledon champ
Germany: Petzchner/Georges/Lisicki/Petkovic - Phillip with any of the top German girls could work well - he does well on grass and is a great doubles player...
