Re: 2010 US Autumn Challengers: Charlotteville, and now Knoxville

According to Kei's blog, he and Smith were friends during their junior days. They were playing against each other in U14 tournaments. This time they met for the first time in three or four years and after the match they had a little chat like "you've become big!" :)

Thursday's OOP:

Court 7
Matches Start At: 11:00 am
Michael YANI (USA) vs Ryler DEHEART (USA)
Carsten BALL (AUS) vs Nicholas MONROE (USA)
David MARTIN (USA) vs Kei NISHIKORI (JPN)
Nicholas MONROE (USA)/Donald YOUNG (USA) vs Stephen HUSS (AUS)/Peter LUCZAK (AUS)
Raven KLAASEN (RSA) vs Robert KENDRICK (USA)
Boris CONKIC (SRB)/Rhyne WILLIAMS (USA) vs Lester COOK (USA)/Brett JOELSON (USA)

David Martin is more of a doubles specialist so I think Kei has a really good chance to make another QF.
The match will be in the middle of the night here so if any of you can follow the livescore, please let us know how the match unfolds. :)

Re: 2010 US Autumn Challengers: Charlotteville, and now Knoxville

Kei won again with the same score as yesterday, 6-3 6-2, over Bobby Reynolds. :D
He will play Witten or Monroe in SF. :)
It seems the courts are a lilttle slower than Charlottesville so he can find his ryhthm more easily.

By reaching SF, I think his ranking next week will be around #115. If he wins the whole thing, he will be ranked around #100!!!
But let's not count the chicken just yet.;)

Goooooooood luck, Kei! :yeah:

Re: 2010 US Autumn Challengers: Charlotteville, and now Knoxville

OOP for Saturday:

Court 7
Matches Start At: 2:00 pm
LL Fritz WOLMARANS (RSA) vs [6] Robert KENDRICK (USA)
[3] Kei NISHIKORI (JPN) vs Q Nicholas MONROE (USA)
After suitable rest
Rik DE VOEST (RSA)/Izak VAN DER MERWE (RSA) vs Nicholas MONROE (USA)/Donald YOUNG (USA)

Monroe is 27 and currently ranked #427. His highest ranking has been #280 in 2008. He usually plays futures and challenger qualies, so Kei should be able to win without a lot of problems, but the guy must be playing well this week and no one should be underestimated.

Kei def. Monroe 6-1 7-6(4) :yippee:
Apparently Kei was a break up in the second set but got broken back. But a win is a win and I think he is the favorite in Sunday's final in which he will face Kendrick.

In his blog after the quarterfinals against Reynolds, Kei wrote that he played really well and no matter how he hits the ball it went in. Reynolds played really well from the beginning as if he gave his all, and Kei was able to respond with good answers. Kei served well and had quite a few aces, and his return of serve was good too. The worries he'd had went away and he hopes to play like that always. (Very very rough translation!)

Win the title, Kei!! :D

OOP for Sunday:
Robert KENDRICK (USA) vs Kei NISHIKORI (JPN)

Good luck, Kei! :D
If he wins, he will probably get back to top 100 and is probably a cert for AO MD. :)

In his blog yesterday, Kei admitted that he had a scare during the match because Monroe played really well and broke Kei's serve when he was serving for the match. Even during the first set, which Kei took 6-1, he was feeling that the second set would be tighter and he was right. After the match he apparently said to himself "Abuneeee!!" (a slang form of "abunai"---which means "risky" or "dangerous" but should stand for "that was close!" in this case) many times.

Draw for Champaign next week is also out. Kei is top seed and will face Guccione in R1. I've posted the draw in the opening post.

Omedetooooo! Kei!! :D

Third win over Kendrick this week!
Kei's ranked #101 this week and has a very good chance to achieve his goal of getting back to top 100 within this season! :yippee:

Finaly it's safe for me to post and celebrate Kei's victory!
Last week he lost straight after I commented here so I felt like I jinxed him...LOL
I should be more confident in Kei's ability :p

#63 ·
Yeah, another back-to-back title would be great! :)
With yesterday's win, Kei's provisional ranking as of today id #99! Of course, there are some players who can still overtake him but it would be wonderful if he can have a few more wins to consolidate a top 100 status.

Delic used to play for the University of Illinois so he is playing on his home turf and will have the crowd support. But I hope it's a good omen for Kei to meet Delic in R2, like he did in Delray Beach two years ago! ;)

 Don't worry, chewy! He should be OK! But I know exactly how you feel!
