Re: Roland Garros 2010!

Nole won, but anyways Kei played a great match, not bad at all, Nole may be lack of a bit luck and experience to be able to beat Nole, if Kei continues to play well like that, I'm sure that Kei will be sucessful in next tournaments, Bye Kei, see you later

Re: Roland Garros 2010!

GSM Nole 6-1 6-4 6-4, big applause from the crowd for both players.

Poor Kei, seemed extremely disappointed now that it's ended.
The last set especially was quite close, Kei had gps to go up 5-3, world No.3 still had the answers.

Re: Roland Garros 2010!

Finished watching the match on my HDD, and then I was watching JCF play, so sorry for this late post!

Shame Kei couldn't convert one of those BPs in the third set. But Nole, even probably at not his best, was the better player especially on big points. Kei later appeared on Japanese TV and said that although he's a bit angry with himself for not taking his chances, he thinks it was a worthy experience to play against a top guy like Djokovic so soon after coming back from the elbow injury. He also said he enjoyed playing out there.

His next tournament is likely to be Queens, if he gets in MD as an alternate or received WC. As for Wimbledon, he said it's more likely he will play qualies. But we'll see.

Re: Roland Garros 2010!

Kei's postmatch interview:

http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/ne...052495569.html

Day 6 - Kei Nishikori
Friday, May 28, 2010

Q. Can you just talk about the match? It's been a while since you played a guy like that on a big stage.
KEI NISHIKORI: Yeah. First of all, I didn't play well today. I mean, he's top player, so he doesn't have much weakness.
Of course it was tough to play against him. He had a good defense. I felt like couldn't do anything against him. He gets everything, and he hits deep. I just couldn't hit winners and couldn't go forward.
I had a chance actually couple times more in third set, but he played well in important points.
So, yeah, nothing I could do today.

Q. How is your elbow? Talk about coming back from your injury a little bit.
KEI NISHIKORI: Elbow feeling good. Of course it's sore from these guys are hitting heavy balls and it's clay court, so it's sore, but it's not painful.
So it's good thing. I think from two months ago it's feeling so much better now, and I don't have to worry anymore.
So, yeah, it's getting better. It's good.

Q. What was the toughest part of rehab when you were out?
KEI NISHIKORI: Um, it's more difficult that I had to decide that I get the surgery, because I haven't get any surgery before. It was just tough to decide that, like put I can't explain, but just tough to do the surgery.
You know, I was doing rehab just moving, like just one inch or two inch. So that was really tough moment.

Q. How long after surgery were you able to start playing tennis?
KEI NISHIKORI: I had surgery almost September yeah, August and took five or six months.
I played Delray in February, but I felt again in my elbow. So it took five, six months.

Q. When did you start hitting tennis balls after surgery? October? November? December?
KEI NISHIKORI: December, close to December. I was hitting lefty until that. Start hitting balls end of December.

Q. You're the youngest man left in the draw, or you were. Why aren't we seeing more young guys playing deeper in the majors, do you think?
KEI NISHIKORI: Um yeah, it's tough question. There is many, many guys good that's my age, like Donald Young. He was top couple years ago. He's still one hundred something.
But, um, I don't know. It's tough question.

Q. We saw Rafa win here at 18, and Becker won Wimbledon at 17. Now we don't see guys that are teenagers winning tournaments anymore, or doing so well.
KEI NISHIKORI: No, these guys are getting better and stronger. It's just tough for us young guys. It's tough to play against these guys.

Q. Physically?
KEI NISHIKORI: Both physically and technique, I think.

And from Nole's interview:

http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/ne...057236495.html

Q. Two years ago Kei Nishikori, your opponent, beat James Blake. After that match when James was asked, Was there are any top players who plays similar to Kei Nishikori, at the time James said it might be you in terms of a play style. You played him today. What do you think about James' statement?
NOVAK DJOKOVIC: Well, there is some similarity in our styles. I would agree in some way, because we both play from the baseline. We both like to keep the control over our opponent, be aggressive on the forehand side. He's very fast, and he's able to play both styles of the game, being defensive and offensive at the same time. He has a solid serve.
I don't think that clay courts is his most preferred surface. I think it's hardcourts. But today he has shown that he can play equally well on clay.
It was a tough two sets, second and third. The first set I won quite comfortably, and then the second and third took one hour each set.
So you couldn't really say even though he was 6 4, 6 4, can't really say that it was, you know, a cruise for me, because I was facing a lot of break balls on my service games. He was playing well. He's a very talented player, and I think he was struggling with injuries lately.
Now he's coming back, so I wish him all the best.
