Possible change for DTT 2009: Points award; [Winner: same as TT 2009]

In 2008, points awards were pretty simple and split in 3 categories: 1000 pts for Grand Slams, 500 points for Masters Series and 250 for any other tournament. This led that any tournament win in a tournament different from Grand Slams or Masters Series was pretty insignificant for overall ranking. For example, nevito won 2 of these tournaments (Moscow and Lyon) but is still ranked 29.

With the appearance of 1000 category and 500 category tournaments in 2009, we have to decide which point award will be granted for 2009. The following options are available:

a/ Same as TT 2009:
- 0 points for R1 losses (except in GS, which are mandatory)
- GS = 1000, 700, 450, 250, 150, 75, 35, 5 (+20 for qualifier)
- Masters Series = 500, 350, 225, 125, 75, 35, 0 (+20 for qualifier)
- 500 = 300, 210, 135, 75, 25, 0 (+15 for qualifier)
- 250 = 200, 140, 90, 50, 20, 0 (+10 for qualifier)

b/ Same as DTT 2008:
- GS = 1000, 700, 450, 250, 150, 75, 35, 5 (+20 for qualifier)
- Masters Series = 500, 350, 225, 125, 75, 35, 5 (+20 for qualifier)
- Other = 250, 175, 110, 60, 25, 5 (+10 for qualifier)

c/ Same as ATP 2009:
- 0 points for R1 losses (except in GS, which are mandatory)
- GS = 2000, 1200, 720, 360, 180, 90, 45, 10 (+25 for qualifier)
- Masters Series = 1000, 600, 360, 180, 90, 45, 10 (+25 for qualifier)
- 500 = 500, 300, 180, 90, 45, 20, 0 (+20 for qualifier)
- 250 = 250, 150, 90, 45, 20, 0 (+12 for qualifier)

d/ Give more points to minor tournaments:
- GS = 1000, 700, 450, 250, 150, 75, 35, 5 (+20 for qualifier)
- Masters Series = 500, 350, 225, 125, 75, 35, 5 (+20 for qualifier)
- 500 = 380, 265, 170, 95,40, 5 (+15 for qualifier)
- 250 = 325, 225, 140, 75,30, 5 (+10 for qualifier)

Note that, whatever solution retained, I will do the conversion with this new point award before first tournament is played for a first 2009 DTT Ranking.

DTT Race will be based on the same (no need to divide by 5 the points).

Poll is opened only for DTT Players (even the ones who have just committed for Doha). Votes from other players will not count.

Poll is opened until 2008-12-31.

TT Singles Year-End Rankings:
2014: 50
2012: 98 (W: Bucharest)
2011: 65
2010: 34 (W: Memphis)
2009: 61
2008: 63

As ATP have not decided to do the conversion, I will not do it as well.

If solution c/ is retained (same as ATP 2009), the only thing I will do is that I will double the points for everybody before starting 2009 (ATP did).

Note also that, whatever solution retained, rankings will be based on best 18 results (instead of best 14 currently), if this is confirmed that ATP rules will apply the same for Doubles Rankings.

Re: Possible change for DTT 2009: Points award

In my opinion, we should do the game more realistic. So, my vote goes to the same as ATP 2009.

Tennis Tipping Highlights:
Singles
Challenger: 2011 W: Quito F: Alphen ; Bogota 1 2010 W: Istanbul F: Bogota 3 2009 F: Bogota 1 2008 W: Orleans
Doubles
ATP & Grand Slam: 2011 W: Umag (w/Belludal) 2009 W: Auckland (w/MuriloBrasil) F: Houston (w/MuriloBrasil)
Challenger: 2011 W: Genève (w/Deathless Mortal) ; Bordeaux (w/karo_em9) ; Prague (w/karo_em9) ; Singapore (w/karo_em9) F: Scheveningen (w/karo_em9) 2010 W: Montevideo (w/karo_em9) ; Tampere (w/karo_em9) F: Bogota 3 (w/karo_em9) 2008 W: Campos dos Jordao (w/MuriloBrasil) ; Genova (w/MuriloBrasil) ; Orleans (w/MuriloBrasil) ; Cali (w/MuriloBrasil) ; Asuncion (w/MuriloBrasil)

Less than 5 hours before poll is closed. It is still very tight but "same as TT 2009" leads.

2011: 65
2010: 34 (W: Memphis)

Re: Possible change for DTT 2009: Points award

This poll is now closed. So, the majority voted for:

a/ Same as TT 2009:
- 0 points for R1 losses (except in GS, which are mandatory)
- GS = 1000, 700, 450, 250, 150, 75, 35, 5 (+20 for qualifier)
- Masters Series = 500, 350, 225, 125, 75, 35, 0 (+20 for qualifier)
- 500 = 300, 210, 135, 75, 25, 0 (+15 for qualifier)
- 250 = 200, 140, 90, 50, 20, 0 (+10 for qualifier)

So, for example, Doha DTT tournament will reward 200 points to the winner of the tournament.
Similarly to real ATP, I will not recompute the points of 2008, so the winner of a similar tournament in 2008 still gets his 250 points. The only change I will apply is that ranking will be based on best 18 tournaments (vs. 14 tournaments so far). This new ranking will be available on January, 5th.

Thanks to all who participated to this poll.

TT Singles Year-End Rankings:
2014: 50
2012: 98 (W: Bucharest)
2011: 65
2010: 34 (W: Memphis)
2009: 61
2008: 63
