Re: The Summer Tour Thread 2009

Thanks for the work of your pen, Krystlel. Great article and great analysis. Much appreciated.

Jo has a good draw at cincinati. A seemingly easy win on Nadal would be perfect for their H2H, even if it's a long shot, that I can concur.
I think that Cincy is now more an affair of making the most possible points for the rankings, rather than preparing for the US open. He has had enough confidence with the Federer match.

The murray's loss doesn't seem as a big deal for me. Jo is always much more dangerous in slam, and in three sets paticularly. I predict a very different outcome if a rematch happens between the two at the USO.

Allez Jo at cincy

Re: The Summer Tour Thread 2009

YOU BEAT THE WORLD NO 1 JO!!!!

This is late from me, but Jo's win against Federer was the highlight of last week for me. At 1-5 down in the 3rd set, I thought I should go to sleep but the masochist part of me wanted to see out match to the bitter end - at that point, Federer only had to put the final nail in the coffin. The end result had me totally stunned, exhilarated and above all, bursting with pride for him. He practically rose like a phoenix from the ashes. This is the kind of heart and passion I love to see in him, hopefully he will learn to fend off the hang-dog mentality when he's down.

As for the match against Murray, that was tight, and it really should have gone to a deciding set. But overall, Jo's performances in Montreal show encouraging signs of better things to come. The Cincinnati draw looks promising... good luck!!!

Re: The Summer Tour Thread 2009

First round match against Guccione rather than Kohli. I'm actually a little worried now, he's a big serving lefty and Jo's really not had great results against the big servers of late. I mean it should be simple enough, there's a reason Guccione is ranked where he is, but I can't help get a little nervy ><

Granted, Guccione is a big serving lefty, but I have positive feelings about this match. Good luck Jo!

Re: The Summer Tour Thread 2009

Jo is playing Guccione at 11:00 Cincinnati time today - which is I think 17:00 French time)
I believe Jo will take this in straight sets with no trouble. I am not impressed by the Aussie. Then again, what do I know, I totally did not see him losing to Karlovic either.
Good Luck Jo!

I shall be positive with you guys, I don't know what on earth got into me last night! And I just remembered Gonzo retired, really hope Jo can capitalise on that, and I'll give him a decent shot against Rafa if he makes it to the 1/4s ^_^

Re: The Summer Tour Thread 2009

Crappy match.
Jo missed 3 BPs early in set 1. He served okay, but Gucci's return game was nothing to talk about. Jo's tactic was to serve to Gucci's backhand which was terrible. TB was on serve till 10-all, Jo had a few half chances, but his serve was untroubled. Then Jo hit a great forehand return that dipped low. Serving for the set, he got too passive with a backhand pass and Gucci was back in. He served bombs and Jo's wiiiiiild forehand made an appearance to help lose the TB 12-14.

2nd set was total implosion. Gucci got away with serving around 40%. I really hope Eric smacks Jo in the head a few times.

Stats:

Re: The Summer Tour Thread 2009

The match was atrocious especially in the second set Jo really needs to stop being so up and down and play at a more consistent level The second set was painful.

Re: The Summer Tour Thread 2009

I spoke too soon And the draw had looked so promising... Big servers are indeed a problem for him, his return of serve and backhand need fine tuning before the US Open.

Still, he has shown us, from his performances in Montreal, of what he's capable of. He's a great athlete, a fantastic shotmaker and as long as he maintains his self-belief, he will be a dangerous contender at the US Open.

Re: The Summer Tour Thread 2009

Well, at least they beat the 5th seeds in doubles yesterday! M. LLODRA/J. TSONGA def. B. SOARES/K. ULLYETT [5] - 60 63.

They are now going to play M. BHUPATHI/M. KNOWLES [4], who beat Nando and Feli the round before.

Re: The Summer Tour Thread 2009

Yes, a very good doubles result, though I kind of expected them to do better. Llodra is a great doubles player and Jo needed to make up for his early exit.
