Re: Clay Season Thread 2009

normally I would think Jo should completely destroy Kohlschreiber, I wonder if it is Jo's lack of comfort on clay or is Kohli playing with more confidence on home soil?

First set, Jo 7/6

Some great points and horrible tiebreaker for Kohli.

By great points you mean absolutely unbelievable, right? My livestream had a moment of weakness just at the moment of that passing shot, and I honestly thought the point was over and that the ball had gone past him, I couldn't believe what happened when I suddenly saw kohli leaping to try to get the ball. I had to wait for the replay to even understand what had happened. He played an angled top-spin passing-shot from one meter behind the baseline, coming back from the net, behind the back and holding his racket upside down. I don't think i've ever seen that, EVER.

It was great, yeah

It's cool that Jo is working some magic again, clay court or not.

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009

Still in course : 2/1 for Jo.

It could be a good test in stamina before RG.

He really needs to work on his slice and on all his shots next to the ground. He makes way too many UEs on them atm.

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009

Some great moments but all those UE Kohli has some great shots too, he's always a pleasure to watch -but not against Jo !
I'm a bit worried about the trainer being called for the knee :/
The double team will probably be Simon/Chardy, no ?

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009

Jo lost : 6/7, 6/3, 6/3

It's anecdotic, but his match was way too erratic, so many ups and downs and lack of consistency.

Well only one match before RG now.

That's not looking really good.

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009

Well-deserved win for Kohlschreiber. He seems to have raised his level since the last time I watched him play, which was I think Australian Open against Santoro.
Jo, . I think Jo needs some tuning up. His backhands were sloppy, he was late to get to the ball on many occasions. I believe he won the first set by pure luck, too.
I didn't think Simon would play the double but, since it's irrelevant now, he might play for match practice.

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009

I think kohlschreiber is pretty good on clay now. I've seen a bit of a match he played against almagro, I think that was in Madrid, and he was really dominating. Still, I think Jo could have done better...

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009

Last match of the world team cup for Jo this year, against Ginepri.

It would be good to gain some confidence before RG, or at least some practice.

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009

I can't watch the match due to technical problems but Jo is a set down  against Ginepri. He broke twice in the second. 36 30 so far. Good luck Jo!

Re: Clay Season Thread 2009

The first set was horrible crap, Bashak. So you weren't missing anything.

Jo is a little better atm, but Ginepri is playing atrocious too.

If you like UEs fest and occasional good points, this match is for you.
