Re: Post AO Season Thread 2009
I am disappointed, not because he lost but because of the way he handled those break points when Djokovic was clearly struggling. Whenever he had advantage point, he tried to be aggressive on the return and often overshot it - when keeping the ball in play would have forced Djokovic to move and make the next shot. In the AO 2008 final, towards the end of the 4th set, Djokovic was also struggling, but Jo allowed himself to be distracted and ended up making unforced errors. It was a bit like déjà vu all over again. No matter what the opponent is doing, or whatever outside factors come into play, it's important to stay in the moment and adjust your game plan accordingly.
Having said that, he's done a great job making it to the quarter finals. What was particularly impressive was that he was not broken serve once until this match. The low first serve percentage against Djokovic cost him dearly, and in the end, it's just one of those days when things don't always click. Well done overall this week.
Now, onward and upward to the clay season. Allez!
