Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Wow indeed.

6/1 6/1 6/3 and 6/4 6/0 6/2 are so not Gilles' usual scorelines.
Must be his best start ever in a grand slam tournament.

Le Poussin! Faithfully ignoring the haters since 1995.

Le Poulailler de Poussin! (Simontarded.)

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Really impressed and pleased with Gilles' nice efficient start to a GS for a change. Hasn't dropped a set yet. It's gonna be tough against Raonic (not official yet of course but a safe bet), but at least he will have plenty of gas left in the tank instead of having already wasted it in unnecessary five-setters by this point in the tournament as is usually the case so that shouldn't be an issue. He's gonna have to be as aggressive as he's been being in the past couple matches but he's gonna have to watch the UE's because he can get away with it against guys who can't really hurt him like his two previous opponents but it's going to be different with Raonic. I really hope he can get past his first big test here because aside from Raonic, his section has already opened up with Kei's 1st round exit. Good luck next round Gilou!

2014, European Clay Season

Great to see Gilles winning in straights again, he usually struggles so much on early rounds. Again loads of winners, 31 W, but more UE's, 33, 15/22 at the net plus broke 7 times , only broken once in 6 sets, must be a record for Gilles . Raonic up next, Gilles doesn't like playing big servers but he will be well rested this time, plus he seems more relaxed and confident and he will have a huge crowd support. Allez Gillou !

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Win or lose against Raonic I feel he has got his confidence and mojo back and will hopefully have some great results over the summer hardcourt season.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Gilles needs to regroup and find his 1st serve again.
I wonder if they will stay on court for a 5th set.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Set 4 completely donated to Raonic courtesy of Gilles. I'll never understand why he in particular more than any other top player ebbs and flows so much from the end of one set to the start of another. Looks like they're playing on in the 5th. Time is ticking. This is gonna be nerve-racking.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

This match is really frustrating. I was ok with him losing the second set, since raonic was putting so much pressure on him. This however... It's a new level of missed opportunity.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Just depressing, I wish he would have lost it 6-4 there.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

He does it again. The 'ol Gilles specialty. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The match was there to be won. A likely quarterfinal was there to be had and now it's gone. He'll lose points and go further down the rankings because he made it to the 4th round last year. Once again Gilles has negated any positive that came from his performances in the first two rounds with his performance here after the 3rd set where he basically gave it all away out of nowhere without reason. If he was beaten by a better player so be it. I can live with that, but when you lose it instead of your opponent winning it, that is a different story. Especially after you even got another last ditch chance and yet again gave it away. I feel bad for him on the one hand but so f***ing pissed with him on the other because it's his own damn fault. Milos wasn't playing better, he just took what was given to him and multiple times at that. Need to go to my happy place now and cool down.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

That service game at 5-5 in the fifth
Another choke in a big match, he can't win these matches because he definitely lacks of a good serve (no first serve in important points) and because of a passive mentality in big points, really disappointing.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Wow. Such highs and lows. A great moment breaking to stay in the match ... then an awful game out of nowhere. So disappointing, this was such an opportunity! He was so dominant in the 3rd set, why did that just disappear? Ugh! The last 5 minutes should have been so different.
