Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Gilles always plays well when it's just practice because there's no pressure. When it comes to a real match that's when all those shots that are working so well in practice go to pot because of his lack of confidence right now. We'll just have to keep hoping that he can ride this down patch out without his ranking suffering too much more and get back on track but I don't think it will be happening here with the draw he's got unfortunately.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Well, Benoit retired today at *2-0 40-40. Not the best way to win a macth but I'll take it. I'm really sad for Benoit, I was glad to see Gilles and Benoit hugging themselves, Gilles sure knows what it is to have important knee problems in 2009 & 2010. Federer up next, Allez Gilles !

Sad for Benoit. I'm sure Gilles didn't want to win this way but those are much needed 45 points.

I'm not sad for paire. He's quite a disgrace for a tennis player. At least gilou wins from it this time

Match against Fed might not be pretty,
but maybe a big challenge will force Gilles to raise his game.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Federer has withdrawn to spend time with his family. Lucky Loser Lukasz Kubot will take his place.

"Spend time with his family" is code for, "Totally afraid of Gilles". Atleast, that's the way I'll take it . But seriously, this is an opportunity for Gilles to get some more much needed ranking points. I hope he can make the most of it.

Now, that's a lucky break, hope he can beat the lucky loser.

LOL, this time it really is true! Mirka had another set of twins today. This time, they are boys, Leo and Lenny. Congratulations to the Federers.

And I can't remember the last time Gilles was so lucky as to get an opponent retirement AND a top 5 withdrawal. Let's hope he stays injury free and focused against Kubot.

Beaten by Kubot 7-5 2-6 6-4

Well, I actually thought he would win this one. I should have known.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

My stream cut out at 4-4 and then I get it back and it's over .

Up 40-0 starting to serve the third set and loses the game, that was the match right there in my opinion. I just don't know what to say other than I think this is more than just a slump, I think his days as a top 20 player are over unfortunately.
