Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

Does anyone else think he should go back to Thierry? I think he needs him right now during this crisis of confidence. Either way, I only saw the first set and I didn't think he played too poorly but obviously things turned around and he couldn't close it out.

I think so too.
Does anyone know what Thierry is doing at the moment? I have been a bit out of the loop lately with Gilles and everything. Maybe Thierry could come back for a short amount of time, just to get him back on track.

2014, Season at the Americas!

I agree with you both. I think getting back Thierry or maybe hiring a french coach whom he knows and confidence with could really help Gilles with his confidence issues. I know Gilles respects a lot De Witt's methods of analysing every point, and I thought that matched with Gilles understanding of the game, but something is definitely wrong with his way of playing big points, and that's where a coach should help, and I think De Witt is not giving Gillou enough confidence.

Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

I don't think so. This is very much a Gilles Simon thing. Not a coach thing. Put him back with Thierry and it would be the same outcome only with Thierry sitting there looking as bewildered as De Witt does now with Gilles' level. Gilles has got what I like to call the "Nikolay Davydenko Syndrome" and he's either going to get out of it before it's too late and regain his confidence and rightful position as a top 20 player or he's going to sink further and further into irrelevancy the way a once great player Nikolay has never to come close to top form consistently for any kind of run again. It's scary times for us Gilles fans.

Great win for Gilles after a poor opening set. Exactly what he needed.

He won a match

Congrats Gilles! Defending champion Rosol next which won't be easy at all but at least he got one win here.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

Pretty bad effort from Gilles today. Let himself fall behind right out the gate with a double break and then came all the way back in the first set only to lose easily in the tiebreak as per usual with him these days. Then fell behind in the 2nd set and just went away. The conditions were awful with really strong and bad wind and gusts and then rain, but they were just as bad for Rosol too and he managed to play much better than Gilles so that's no excuse for his performance. The poor form continues.

Re: 2014, European Clay Season

No easy draws with his current ranking but he always gets a Top-4 as his projected R2 opponent ( it doesn't mind because he doesn't get there ). Benoit is right now getting back on track after his injury, and he doesn't seem too convincing ATM but Gilles is not any better, so I can't predict. I hope he gets his first M-1000 win of the season, Allez Gillou!

2014, European Clay Season

I went today to Madrid tournament and I saw Gilles practicing . He was practicing with Ramos, he was winning 61 20 when their hour was finished. It was just practice but Gilles was playing really well, great serves and the FH DTL was on fire. His backhand was quite good also, he was really hitting hard with both the DTL and the CC with good directions. He finsihed off lot of points at the net also. Overall, very enjoyable to see him playing that well. He was also in a good mood, joking with Ramos and Jan De Witt, and also with Sousa when he came in. Sadly, my mobile ran out of battery so I couldn't take any pics. I couldn't ask him for an autograph as he was on a court where there wasn't courtside seats, and he was on a bit of a rush afterwards.
