Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

Well, 64 54 down, too predictable he would lose his serve at 4-4.

Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

64 64 loss, Del Bonis was quite good, and Gilles was his 2014 self, lacking self-confidence, good to see he fighted a bit in the end, he was lacking power, and Delbo serve plus FH combo was putting Gilles under a lot of difficulties.

Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

I only saw a few games. Thought it was really bad from him tbh. Too defensive + lots of UE...

So much for a rerun of 2008 I guess

2014, Season at the Americas!

MC draw is out, Qualifier on R1 and Rafa on R2 if he gets through R1 which is a tall task considering his current form. Maybe having the chance to play Rafa can inspire him to play great in Monte-Carlo like in 2012. Anyway, I would be happy if he gets rid of his 4 match losing streak ( on ATP MD's) and he gets the chance to play a big match on CC. Allez Gillou!

This draw is like adding insult to injury . If he managed to get to play Nadal, I do hope he'll at least make a match out of it.

Well, not much hope for him in Monte-Carlo now. Not that there was much to begin with, but I digress. Shame he isn't playing great, or hell even good tennis right now because the Grand Prix tourney really was there for the taking and could've been his at least one tournament win he gets every year. Not holding out much hope for that to continue this year though unfortunately unless things drastically change for the better, which I hope they do.

Gilles and Jeremy won their R1 match in doubles vs Anderson/Melzer, 64 26 10-4 . He plays Gabashvili tomorrow on the first turn of Court 2. I hope Gilles can get a win, it's very needed for the ranking and confidence. Allez Gillou!

Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

Chardy tweeted about it, says the match was great and he really enjoyed it.

Hopefully that helps him tomorrow, I think it would be good for him to play against Nadal, even with 0,00001% chances of winning.

There's always a step down to go apparently. Has anyone seen him this year and can explain why his results are consistent with a Futures player? Cause I don't even dare watch his matches anymore

Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

I saw some of them. I'd say it's a confidence thing. He's not playing extremely well, obviously but mostly he crumbles both when he's in the lead, which is not that unusual, and when he's got his back against the wall.

The encouraging thing for me is that he could get a really good match and get back on track. That's why I liked this draw, playing against the number one player could have given him a boost.

I also thought this draw was good for him cause he would have a chance to play with no pressure at all. But not

"But not" is a great summary of his season
Who knows though, he could bounce back, we've seen weirder things happen with him.

Hopefully he just manages to play one great match soon, and then the confidence can start to come back.

2014, Season at the Americas!

Oh Gilles ! Why can't you get a win, it's so frustrating, he hasn't won a MD match since Acapulco ( 5 straight defeats since then ). He was quite unlucky at the beggining of the season, I think he would have done better in the Oz season if he hadn't been injured, and then he broke his vertebra in DC, so he had to play Montpellier injured, withdrew from Rotterdam, and when it seemed like his game was getting back he lost to Murray in that match which seemed to be his to lose ( I think that if he had managed to beat Andy after so many attempts he would have gotten a lot of confidence), so I think it was hard mentally for him that after his huge efforts on the off-season he couldn't be injury-free at the beggining of the season. At least he's injury free since Casablanca, and I think that when he gets a win playing well he will get a bit of his confidence back.
