Even if it's unlikely, let's hope Chardy just didn't want to play because he lost in singles or that it's just precautionary.

Either way, I'm really nervous now.

I read that Chardy was injured. Not from an official source though.

I feel bad for hoping it was Chardy who's injured, rather than Gilles.
But to think that Gilles' back still hurt and he has to play Murray next

Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

Well, Gilles is 1-11 against Murray so he really has nothing to lose so maybe the fact that he might still be dealing with a bit of a nagging injury might play to his advantage in that it will take some of the pressure he puts on himself off of him.

For me, I really have no expectations for him to win this match so I'm just hoping that he doesn't get steamrolled. I'll be satisfied if he makes it a competitive match or maybe even *gasps* takes a set off of Murray. Good luck Gilou!

Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

Just to clarify, I'm already quite sure that he will lose in an easy 2 anyway so losing is nothing to be scared of, I am scare that if he isn't fit, he will get double bagled by Murray, that's all.

Argh, that one stings. He was so close yet so far away just like the last time. Poor Simon. You had your chance but you just couldn't quite believe in yourself in the moment enough to take it. Pretty sure this third set will be all Murray now, but we'll see.

Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

The match was pretty much over on that 2nd set TB. He had a few chances on the 3rd but by then Andy had found his form. What a shame

Re: 2014, Season at the Americas!

Ugh, so frustrating. Pissed at him and yet sympathetic at the same time. Such a shame. Feel bad for him. The win could've been a game-changer for his thus far poor season. He competed well, and that would've been enough for me if he hadn't actually had any real chance to win, but the reality and the bad thing about this loss is that he did have the chance to win and the match was there for the taking for him and he just took his foot off of the gas yet again at the key moments of the match instead of putting the petal to the metal and going full speed ahead to the finish. He had it on his racquet at 5-3 in the 2nd set. Then on Murray's serve at 5-4, and then in the tiebreak, but each time he started playing tighter and tighter when he should've been even more aggressive than he already had been up to that point because it was either going to happen there or be the usual outcome in the third, which it ended up being yet again.

Again, well done to him and he competed hard and I know he wasn't feeling the best, but this was a match he should've won, but instead, the outcome was the same again and now he's 1-12 against Murray. It's getting tiresome. He deserves better than this but you have to step up when the opportunities present themselves. I'd say I hope he carries the form he had in the first to sets tonight, which were shades of good old 2009 Simon, into Indian Wells, but we all know that is a crapshoot as well. He's just too much of a wildcard anymore. Either way, good luck to him in Indian Wells.

2014, Season at the Americas!

So close , I just catched the highlights and it looks that Gilles was at his offensive best till 61 *53. Real shame that he couldn't close it out, this would have given so much confidence to kickstart his season. Anyways, looking on the bright side, he got two straight sets wins and came really close to beating a Top-10 player while having a bad back.

Gilles Simon
Benoît Paire, Edouard Roger-Vasselin,Nicolas Mahut, Jeremy Chardy, Aljaz Bedene, Florian Mayer, Tommy Robredo, Evgeny Korolev, Albert Ramos, Guillaume Rufin

Such a shame. Just one game away from the win.
