Re: 2013 Spring European Clay Season, Allez!

He played very well in the second set, at the end of the tie break with a FH winner followed by a BH DTL and a good return to provocate the error and finally a good fifth set. (i just saw the replay on francetvsport).
Good to see him play aggressively in important points of the match and nice defense at times as well.
Querrey had more winners largely because he had much more easy put-away shots to execute than Gilles (after good serves).
A nice win for him.

Re: 2013 Spring European Clay Season, Allez!

From what I can tell, it looks like Gilles decided to pull out of his mixed doubles with Cornet because he was scheduled to be on court 3 today and now he's not and they're no longer listed in the main draw. I think that was a smart move for Gilles because he's played a lot of tennis in his three rounds with two of them going the distance as five setters and if he hadn't pulled out of mixed, he wouldn't have even had a day off to rest and try and recuperate for his fourth round match against Federer. So it wast smart thinking on his part. Singles definitely should and does take priority over anything else.

I kinda doubt it because it was off the schedule this morning before she even played her match. I think Gilles knew he needed to rest in order to give himself the best possible chance against Fedex.

Re: 2013 Spring European Clay Season, Allez!

On Alize's blog, she said Gilles pulled out bcos De Witt didn't want him to play mixed since he already played 3 marathon matches, so much so that he's "threatened" to not work with Gilles.

Good choice I say, cos really, he needs all the energy he can summon for tomorrow.

Re: 2013 Spring European Clay Season, Allez!

I wouldn't get to distressed about it Gillouthe best, this was the expected outcome I think for most of us. We're all just happy he got here. To me, anything more is a bonus. Granted I hope he maybe takes a set off of Federer or at least makes one set go to a tiebreak, but I never for a second think/thought that he would win this match. I am however already tired of listening to Wilander gush over Federer and at the same time passively bash Gilles Simon. Gets old real fast.

Haha I love it! He took a set off of Fed and Wilander is throwing a fit like a little bitch. He basically said that Simon doesn't even deserve to be on the same court as Federer and as soon as Federer wakes up from his little nap he took in the second set, Gilles will pay the price. Oh, but he congratulated Gilles after saying all that on winning the second set. What a dick. Stay classy Mats.

Re: 2013 Spring European Clay Season, Allez!

Glad I overslept and missed the whole part where Gilles was horrible. 17 UEs in set 1?

Wilander hates Gilles, I guess. He was bashing Gilles in that AO match against Murray, saying that Gilles should be ashamed that he was in such a bad physical condition after merely a 5 hr match.

As for Gilles not deserving to be on the same court as Federer, well, every other Fed fanboys think that, they were so offended that Gilles beat him twice in 2 trys. They kept insisting that Fed was hurt in both losses. But the moment Gilles retired 0-3 down and let Fed even the H2H, those same Fedfans celebrated like crazy, nevermind that their hero just pretty much won a WO, it was hilarious. Well, anyway, I didn't really had a good sleep last nite, so I just wanna vent a little . Carry on...Allez Gilles.
