Re: 2013 Spring US Hardcourts, Allez!

Hopefully Haas will suffer a bit of fatigue and a letdown considering they said that was just the 2nd time in all of his career beating a world #1 player. Gilles will have to play more aggressive and be willing to stand a little closer to the baseline if he wants to have a chance. Haas likes to play short points these days and likes to hit hard and flat from on or just inside the baseline.

It's still not a given by far for Gilles to win, but I gave him virtually no chance against Djokovic. Haas is a different story. I'd say his chances went from 20% to 65-70% now. C'mon Gilles

I said that but I don't really mean it. Nole

Reborn Haas is looking young and fantastic, this only last 1 hr 20 mins, I don't think he's even tired. I fear for Gilles' chance.

You are more optimistic than me but I hope you're right. I put him at a 35-40 percent chance because I still don't think Gilles is at his best even though he played well today.

Thank you, Gilles!

BTW: I would not be surprised if he will be selected for a real rubber in DC.

Great win for Gilles today, he was great mentally ( winning a lot of tight games), and it was his best match in the US swing this season. H2H with Tipsa is now 7-2 . It's amazing that he's beated two Top-10 players this season while he's playing 1 good match out of 6. Now a great chance for the SF's, but I would say like mike s. that Haas the upperhand ( 4-1 H2H, and he's looked great vs Dolgo and Nole). Hope Gilles does his best!

This.
But we know Gilles, he only plays well when he's facing top guys. I suppose that's a motivation problem? Not sure, whatever it is. Sadly, he has to get thru a lot of lower ranks to get to the top guys.

Didn't watch the Nole match, but I can imagine. Did watch Dolgo's, Haas was great. He had upperhand at H2H, a pretty wide margin. Not sure if Gilles can keep his good level. There's his itw on L'Equipe, only need to read the headline to know how he felt about his match:

Recueilli par S.D., à Miami

Re: 2013 Spring US Hardcourts, Allez!

He just lost the first set to Haas. Just 1 bp for Haas the whole set and he hit an UE to give it away , very nervy stuff. Then start 2nd set with a break down. What's new.

Oh well, I didn't think his chance against Haas was high, and so far he's proving me right . C'mon Gilles.

Re: 2013 Spring US Hardcourts, Allez!

Well, 2 break down after 3 games in 2nd. I think it's probably not too early to say that he's quite done. That's a bit disappointing though. I mean, it's not the first time he lost the 1st set to anyone, but it's not that often he was so nervous after he lost a 1st set. I guess despite a good showing yesterday, today's back to his bad form. I suppose we can start count this match as 1 (as reference to his 1 good out of 6 matches).

Oh, and Haas is good, doing well in everything and hit 78% 1st serve. All that probably gets in Gilles' head too.

Well at least he's on the board in this second set. Maybe old Tommy will start to get a little tired and make a few more loose errors.

Re: 2013 Spring US Hardcourts, Allez!

I don't think he plays well, maybe he didn't hit UEs left right and center, but he didn't really try anything. It's predictable to Haas. And he pretty much didn't give any pressure to Haas. He's playing like he didn't think he can win. I mean, he rarely hit a big FH. He's not making it difficult for Haas to even draw errors.

Re: 2013 Spring US Hardcourts, Allez!

I was fearing his chance before the match, so really wasn't expecting him to win. But tbh, the scoreline is very disappointing. He really should be able to do better than this.

Yep, just won 4 games in the whole match. He won more game in TO playing with a bad back. Oh well. He doesn't even look disappointed . Okay. Nevermind. Moving on.

Haas played really well tonight. I've never seen him play this well, he was just in charge. If he keeps it up I think he'll beat Ferrer.
