Re: 2013 Spring US Hardcourts, Allez!

Well, he lives to play another match. Against Tipsy, I think he may have a chance. Hopefully, seeing Tipsy on the other side of the net will bring up some good sensation for him. Allez.

I guess that was slightly better than some of the matches in Indian Wells but still really ugly. I think he'll step up against Tipsy though.

Well, at least he's made another R4 in an M-1000 He's playing as bad as in IW, but the conditions here are much better for him ( so he wins in straights even playing like shit). Tipsy up next, Janko usually makes Gilles play his best [ and Gilles already beated him here in 2011], but playing like he's playing now I'd give him a 25-35 % chance, though I think he will play better. Also, he's made 28 UE's in 2 sets while pushing the ball, routine shots he wouldn't miss, I think that's due to the lack of a coach and of proper practice sessions.

Gilles Simon
Benoît Paire, Edouard Roger-Vasselin,Nicolas Mahut, Jeremy Chardy, Aljaz Bedene, Florian Mayer, Tommy Robredo, Evgeny Korolev, Albert Ramos, Guillaume Rufin

Re: 2013 Spring US Hardcourts, Allez!

Well, all and all, he's done what he needs to do more of in these bigger tournaments early on which is be more efficient and not waste energy by dropping sets you should be winning and he hasn't dropped a set yet so he should have plenty of energy for his clash with tipsy yet again.

I think that the wind played a big factor in all the errors from both players today too. It was difficult to get any rhythm out there because the wind was really swirling and moving the ball around. Gilles did what he had to do and won on his ranking and better skills as a player alone.

I'd be more upset if he had had to slosh his way through two consecutive 3 set matches in the first 2 rounds, but since he's been pretty efficient, I'm ok with things for now.

Yeah, even though it was ugly, I don't think it was as bad as the matches against Lorenzi and Paire. He didn't seem to be missing as many routine shots as he did there but maybe I'm just used to him playing poorly by this point

Actually, I think it's hard for him to get rhythm when the opponent is playing so badly. And when the other guy is an error machine, he probably doesn't bother to do much himself. Okay, whatever the case, I fully expect he will play well next match against Tipsy, just because it's Tipsy on the other side.

well he's winning easy so im happy. Tipsy looks like he's getting back into form so it might be harder than we expected

Re: 2013 Spring US Hardcourts, Allez!

Just a few words in the paper:
« Je m’habitue à mal jouer, je suis de moins en moins frustré, dit Simon. On va dire que je vis mieux avec. Avec “Tipsa”, on a très souvent fait des bons matches. C’est toujours difficile parce qu’il fait tout bien. On s’est joué cinq fois l’an dernier, on se connaît par coeur : il sait qu’il ne peut pas me déborder en une frappe, je sais que si je suis timide, je n’ai aucune chance… »

"I'm getting used to playing badly, so it's less and less frustrating. Let's just said I'm doing better living with it. With Tipsy, it's always a good match. It's difficult because he does everything well. We played 5 times last year, know each other by heart. He knows he can't run over me in 1 strike, I know if I get timid, I have no chance."

I don't think we expect it will be easy, right? I'm expecting another 3 sets dogfight, hopefully Gilles comes out on top as usual. Allez.

I'm going to make a bold prediction & say that Gilles is going to lose to a Serb.

I could be wrong but I don't think they've announced yet. I'm sure he'd play if he was selected but he probably won't be chosen. I'm guessing it will be Tsonga, Gasquet, Llodra, and Benneteau but I guess we'll see tomorrow.

gasquet is still injured with sprained tendons or ligaments in the right ankle from indian wells; plus his record against nalbandian is atrocious so there is a chance simon will be chosen (or monfils).

Maybe you hear sth we haven't heard yet?

Thanks for the link to Gilles learning to make gin. Looks like he had fun. Glad he made drinks instead of having to dance with the cheerleaders .

Richard with a sprained ankle is playing better than the very bad Gilles right now, srsly. But I think Gilles may get called anyway to be the backup guy (if they need a backup guy), since Chardy is in even worse form atm.

well..tipsy had been losing to literally anyone lately so i thought maybe it might be an easy one for gilles..even with his own sub-stellar form

its got me a little worried now that tipsy is back in form

good luck to him either way
