First really easy win of the year for Gillou , again 83% won on 1st serve which is great for Gilles, good luck on QF's.

Court 1 is a misplaced challenger court. There's no hawk eye, no serve speed thing and the training courts are right next to it. And, like you said, no stream.

Re: 2013 Winter European Indoors, Allez!

L'Equipe:

Here's what I understand: Gilles said he's in a transition period. His priority is still health first, more on building the body than spending time on court...hoping that by RG the balance will be reversed (working more on the game instead of the body). He's not happy about his game right now, the return and volley are progressing well but the baseline game is awful...but he fights until better days.
I hope I got it right.

Well his ground game is certainly off. He misses a lot of rally balls these days I'd never dream of him missing in the past. His volleys do seem a bit better, but he needs to get back is water tight trademark groundies.

Gilles is never satisfied with his game . Hopefully he gets through his QF and then will have nothing to lose against Roger and can just go for it.

He's playing on central court tomorrow vs Klizan, being his match the last on CC. Klizan seems to be playing a bit better this week, and he could be tricky with Gilles current game, I hope he wins!

Re: 2013 Winter European Indoors, Allez!

The way this draw has been opening up for Gilles, I somehow wouldn't be surprised if Benneteau drew a miracle win over Fed lol

In all seriousness though, he plays Martin Klizak in the QF. Klizan is ranked 31st, so he shouldn't be too easy. Hopefully Gillou can pull through and be a bit more consistent from the baseline. It's like every week there is a different set of issues that he has to overcome. It's doulerous work to be a fan of Gilles Simon!

Re: 2013 Winter European Indoors, Allez!

It requires a lot of mental strength to be a Gilles Simon fan, it's true.
His baseline game is a mess at the moment, but at least the other parts of the game is not in pieces, yet. He knows what the problem is, so there's a chance he can solve it . I like that he said he'll have to get things done with all his means, whatever is available, until the good days come, which hopefully good days will come soon. Klizan is a tough test. I also like him too after watching him in last USO pulling out some fantastic upsets (although not so sure that he'll be Top 10 soon, maybe some day). I hope Gilles will find a way to handle him tomorrow. Allez Gilles.

Agreed. And it's been going on for what, two-three years now? I don't doubt the seriousness of his problems but putting the emphasis on it presser after presser became annoying after a while. Plus, it certainly doesn't help to set himself in the best disposition on court.

Shameless fairweather fan I've become.

Well, if Bennet beats Fed then I want Julien to win the tourney. The poor guy deserves a title by now. I bought the tournament programme and they write that Gilles has got the most titles of his generation (10, where Jo and Gael have less) and of course they wrote that Bennet doesn't have any. They even named the article "Julien Benneteau: Still waiting for his first title".
They also forgot to mention Llodra's 3rd child. Sometimes these books annoy the hell out of me. I can scan the page about Gilles if anyone's interested, but there's really nothing new in there. And it's in Dutch.

Thanks.
I can't take all the credits, the translator did most of the work, I just help made the twisted translated language into plain understandable English.

On the one hand, I agreed. It seems like he's whining all the times and ppl got tired of him at some points. I can totally understand the criticisms at him always mentioning the problems to set excuses for future losses. It almost seem that way. But I'm sure he probably got asked by the journalists too, who always need pointers to write articles. Can't just keep writing: "nothing happened, Simon said he just sucks this week, like he did last week...".

On the other hand (cos you know there's always one), as a fan, I like to know all his problems. Better that he tells me every time after every match, than me guessing what the hell is wrong with him. Well, that's part of being a fan, you feel like you are entitled to know every aspects of his game . I would really want to know what he eats for his 3 meals every day too , I really want to know if he's committed to getting his body in order (knowing that he's the junk food prince, I want to know how committed he is to his cause).

Gilles got the most titles, as of now. The rate Richard is picking up titles these days, Gilles will get past in no time. Good that at least he got a 500. And if Gilles get past Klizan tomorrow, I rather he plays Fed. Not that I think he'll beat Fed, I just want to see Gilles plays well, as he always does against Fed.

If there's a good picture of Gilles on your program, then please do scan if that's not too much trouble.

Re: 2013 Winter European Indoors, Allez!

I agree Lalaland, I want to know everything too. I really don't think he's making excuses, I think he's just honest to a fault and loves to talk. We've seen his honesty get him in trouble before .

Anyway, I think most players have the same number of problems as Gilles, just some of them don't like to talk about any physical issues. Nadal is similar to Gilles, he'll always talk about his physical problems as well.

Exactly. And Gilles' the kind who likes to explain things to the T. I know a few in real life, in fact, I think I am one of those . I also think there's no such thing as excuse for loss, if one is unfit that led to a loss, that's his inability to maintain the body at the ultimate condition, that's a fail, not an excuse. Nowadays, tennis is not just about skill, we talk about the mental ability, the endurance, the recovery ability. Every element has to be there to allow a player to perform at the top. When a player lost due to injury, that's him failing in 1 of the elements that is required for winning, it's no different from losing due to lack of fitness, lack of mental toughness, lapse of concentration, or lacking a game plan to win. It's a factor, not excuse. That's how I see it anyway.

Re: 2013 Winter European Indoors, Allez!

Quite excited at actually being able to watch some tennis today!!!

I saw Klizan play in Glasgow - he went from scary good to rubbish and back again quite quickly - I can imagine his fans are used to rollercoasters
