Re: 2013 Fall Season, Regroup! Allez!

That's a shame. It really is. I'm just really worried now how he can't seem to go more than a tournament or two before some kind of injury or pre-existing one crops up again. He won't be able to maintain a solid top 15/20 ranking, where he definitely belongs at the very least, if he can no longer stay healthy enough for the majority of the season. And if that becomes the case, I could see him deciding it's no longer worth it and retiring to be with his kids. It's kinda scaring me right now. We just can't seem to enjoy anything for very long these days before we're knocked right back down.

Well, he's apparently playing tomorrow, third turn on Court 1, I'm giving him a 10% or less chance of winning, because adding to the injury, he's never performed well in Tokyo, and Granollers oddly seems to have his number ( he's beated him once per year in the post-USO swing since 2010 [ twice in Valencia, and once in Pekin] ) . Anyway, good luck Gilles, and please, don't force the issue if you are badly injured!

Looks like no stream for the match so we won't be able to tell how he's feeling. Oh well, good luck Gilles and don't force it if you're not healthy.

He pulled out. It's a LL against Granollers now, saw this in the schedule in the scoreboard site.

Siigh. It's probably for the best, but why does it feel like we just went through this? Oh wait, we did. I just hope it's a small detour and not something that turns into another month or so long absence from the tour. We were off to such a good start only to be right back to this again.

Re: 2013 Fall Season, Regroup! Allez!

Boy Gilles really needs to get this situation with his body and its apparent increased fragility in check and under control because this is another perfect example now of a missed opportunity because his section of the draw that he was in has really opened up now just after only the 2nd round with both Kevin Anderson and Tsonga going out. The only real threat would've been Raonic and if he got upset or if Gilles had gotten past him, the top half is filled with winnable potential opponents. Gilles was looking at another potential semifinal or final opportunity and at a 500 tier tournament no less. All wiped away now because of his latest injury issues. It's got to stop. He could've done some serious damage here the way he was playing before the injury. Very frustrating.

Re: 2013 Fall Season, Regroup! Allez!

I agree it's frustrating that he had a big opportunity in Tokyo.

Also, I just wanted to know what injury did he cite for his withdrawal? Is it his abs? Also, does anyone know if it was precautionary to make sure he's healthy for the two masters or if it is a more serious injury.

Re: 2013 Fall Season, Regroup! Allez!

This little bit from paper last sunday after he lost to Berdych:

The Abs is the problem in that match, he can't put anything on his serve, that's when he said there's only 30% chance he will play. But he withdrawn eventually. I think it's more recovery than precautionary.

Re: 2013 Fall Season, Regroup! Allez!

For those of us who are in the states, did you guys notice how ESPN3 seems to have started showing secondary main court coverage in addition to the main stage? Prior to this, they only used to show extra courts during the majors, but not for the 1000 or 500 tournaments opting instead to just show main court coverage only. This is the first time to my knowledge that they are offering secondary court coverage for a masters 1000. I'm glad they've decided to do it too because Gilles will be up first on Grandstand tomorrow.

I don't know if it's a permanent change going forward (I hope so) or what. It's exciting because their stream is supremely high quality and Gilles is mostly on the secondary main courts, which is Grandstand here, until later stages anymore anyway it seems so now we can see him in high quality on the ESPN3 stream instead of having to use an international feed from a stream site that various in quality for the second camera court.
