Uh, where to begin? Heck of an effort from Gilles and I love the never say die attitude and fight as always!
. Gilles' sets-won-in-a-row streak came to an end at 11 but that isn't really a big deal, just kinda fun to see him winning so efficiently as of late.
He fought hard and played pretty well, but it's troubling to see an injury or muscle strain may have reared its ugly head yet again already after barely a week back on tour. We'll have to see what he says in the press conference. Hopefully it's not too bad but it looked like it was really bothering him and he had to call the trainer so it was bad enough for that.
I'm nervous now that he seems not to be able to go the long haul in a tough match without possibly injuring himself to some degree. Even when he wins like now, who knows what kind of condition he'll be in now against presumably Berdych in the semis? If he can't do it in these 2 out of 3 set tournies now week in and week out, how is he going to do it in majors for 3 out of 5 sets day in and day out and expect to make any sort of run? It's worrisome. Age may be catching up with him.
Like he said in his first post-match interview after beating Tomic, it's his body that he's now lost his confidence in while he feels more confident in his game.
Anyway, good win for Gilles. I hope he doesn't have to pull out or end up having to play at less than 90% or so.
