2012 Schedule and Ranking

About time to start a new thread for next year, that's thinking ahead . Okay, it's not, just that I saw news of him committing to Montpellier next year, that's the week before Davis Cup in Vancouver, which I suppose he will also be going regardless of whether he gets to play. Also heard that Kooyong is talking to him, which is strange since I would think he will try to defend his Sydney title. But then, it's just talk, we'll find out if he's on Sydney's list in about 2 weeks time. But anyway, here we goes, schedule for the next year.

Wonder what his goal is for 2012, back to Top 10, I hope. And what his schedule would be like? Will he be more sensible and not to sign up for so many tournaments? He was out in first match in 9 of the tournaments this year, if he only played the rest 18 tournaments, he would have gotten the same amount of points . Well, okay, I know it doesn't work that way, he needs to play a lot to get into his groove, since he's a notoriously slow starter (both tournaments he won, he lost R1 the week before). But still, I think he played too much this year and burned himself out at the end (it's not just the amount of matches he played, but a lot of traveling weeks after week plus a lot of losing to deal with that are exhausting too). Tutu said they will re-think their schedule next year, so I hope they actually do and make out a more sensible one.

Sorry for the essay...just really feel like wondering out loud the questions I have in the past few weeks. So schedule, I will add the one that has announced of his commitment...

Montpellier:

Kooyong (in Oct), there's a little paragraph at the end mentioning who's in talk for the tourney, but that's like a month ago.

Updates:
According to Le Parisien (thanks to Soulage for posting the article), Gilles is going to play Brisbane and Kooyong. So I guess he's not defending Sydney, which is probably sensible choice to take it easy the week before a slam and concentrate on the important one in Melbourne.

Re: 2012 Schedule and Ranking

I'm feeling skeptical about the new year. I think Gilles will have to be very lucky/work his ass off to crack the top ten. I hope he maintains a top 15 position, I would be satisfied with that Allez Gillou!

Gilles Simon
Dimitrov • Mahut • Paire • Hewitt • Raonic • Berdych • Gulbis • Murray

Thanks for the memories... Andy Roddick.

Re: 2012 Schedule and Ranking

He will do the south american clay season ? He'll play brasil Open after DC http://esportes.r7.com/esportes-olim...-20111129.html

Maybe he plays only in Brasil and come back in Europe

So, he skips Rotterdam? I think it's a good decision, he doesn't play that good on Rotterdam. I hope he plays Marseille and Dubai though

Re: 2012 Schedule and Ranking

Thanks Soulage, for the news.

That's interesting. Well, I guess Vancouver is closer to Costa do Sauípe than to Rotterdam, only barely though. But if he's only playing Brazil and go back to Marseille, then it's kinda silly to play 1 clay tournament in between indoor hardcourt tourneys. I always find the S.A. clay swing awkward in terms of timing. Not sure if I agree with this schedule. Oh well.

------------

ooops, my bad, thought I read about sth changes at the Brazil Open, so it's in Sao Paulo next year, plays indoor, not sure if it's still clay though.

Re: 2012 Schedule and Ranking

So he found some new confidence on clay and decide to ride on it? Interesting.

According to this http://www.tenisnews.com.br/modules....icle&sid=43913, he is indeed going to play the full S.A. clay swing. Maybe he realizes that S.A. is the only continent he hasn't win a title and try to accomplish that . Oh well, so that's the change of schedule? same amount of tournaments, just different route? in fact, it's more tournaments since he doesn't usually play the week after Oz and now he's playing Montpellier before DC...Okay

---------------------

I just updated the schedule and I guess I see the logic now, he's not going home after Vancouver, just stay in South/North America until April. Wow, poor guy. Then again, he could have play the American HC, why the clay swing? Well, okay, I must have a little bias against clay, just that despite his win in Hamburg, I still think he's a better HC player than clay. And the American HCs should be a better preparation for IW & Mia. Oh well!

Wow, Gilles is going to play a lot this year, incredible. I also think that going to San Jose, Memphis. etc... would have been better.
