ESPN3 has court 17 . 3rd match of the day is probably the time when I drive to work, which means I'll tape it when the replay becomes available at the end of the day .
Hope he wins. Allez Gilles.

Re: The Grass is Always Greener on Gilou's Court - 2011

His itw on L'Equipe:

The BBC only have 6 interactive stream through satellite, ESPN have ?9? not terribly sure but I know they have a couple more. There might well be a dodgy stream available live though? My boss (I love my boss) has given me tomorrow off - although with the forecast we might not see his match till Thursday

Oh, what a nice boss you have, Les.
Well, my boss was nice too, I got monday off but turned out that I could have just gone to work since his match monday wasn't televised. Now I can't ask for another day off

ESPN3 has fantastic coverage, 9 out of 19 courts, CC, 1-3, 12,14,16-18, all the more annoying that Gilles' first match wasn't on any one of them .

I didn't think court 17 had cameras on it either.

Is that a new thing?

Not sure if it's a new thing or not. They always do cover those big number courts, but I didn't realize there's 9 courts they covered, I thought it's only 7, until Les mentioned it and I went up to ESPN3 to count.

Re: The Grass is Always Greener on Gilou's Court - 2011

There's this article:

Gilles Simon happy with first-round win

Gilles Simon
From: News Limited newspapers
June 22, 2011 8:04AM

FRENCH tennis star Gilles Simon writes for us after his first-round win at the All England Tennis Club.
(what does it mean he writes for them? is he blogging on Aussie paper now?

TURNING up at any grand slam, but especially Wimbledon, knowing you are short of practice and matches is not ideal. A back injury from playing the ATP World Tour event at Queen's Club, followed by London's summer rain meant I went into my first-round match here with not enough practice.

I couldn't practice more than an hour every day so when you play a slam, you know you need to be ready to play 3-4-5 sets and you always want to practice more before a tournament.

It worried me that I didn't practice a lot before the tournament - it was far less than what I wanted, and I must admit before the match started, I felt like I was not ready.

Going into a first-round match is not a feeling that I like very much because maybe the very top players can afford to play the first match not 100 per cent. They manage to win it and improve every match. For me, unfortunately, when I'm not playing 100 per cent, I miss most of the time, and then I have to take the plane back home in the night.

So I was a little bit worried before and finally I think I played a very good match against Eduoard Roger-Vasselin, one of my French compatriots. The match started on Monday but because of the rain it meant that we had to come back and finish the match today.

Rain delays can be very frustrating but we were lucky that our match was scheduled late in the afternoon, so when it started raining, we knew it would be raining for all the night. When we came off I did my normal post match routine and then waited for the announcement that there would be no more play. As soon as I heard it, I was out of the club in a flash.

During the match, I played good tennis. The intensity was not always perfect but I had very good moments.

I know Eduoard and I know he is a very good player on grass. I knew he had played a lot of matches in qualifying and he won all of them - more than me coming into the tournament.

I knew it was going to be very hard because he is confident and he's playing his best tennis. For me, I knew it was going to be very hard.

Winning this match with a very light preparation is a very good result.

Most players don't like to look ahead into the draw, but I've always done that. I don't know why, but I always do - so I know what is coming.

If I win my next match against Dudi Sela, I'd get to play Juan Martin Del Potro in the third round and Rafa Nadal in the fourth round but given that I have those two in my draw, I didn't look any further than that!

I know every match is going to be very hard to win, so for now I will just to try to focus on Dudi.

We are the same generation and I know he is a very good player. He can play very good tennis from the baseline.

The only good news for me is that he's not serving only aces. He has a big serve.

I think I will have the advantage on the first two shots but if we have to play longer on the baseline, he is capable of amazing tennis.

He's a good mover, he can hit winners so I think my serve is going to be important in this match.

He's writing for an Aussie newspaper?

If Gille's match somehow has to finish on Thursday (unlikely) then we shall have a first hand report! Haha, well not exactly. My parents are going and if he's playing i'm forcing them to go take pics

Court 19 is def not televised. It'll get his match done though hopefully which is a good thing. He needs that day of rest between matches.

Re: The Grass is Always Greener on Gilou's Court - 2011

Oh dear. The court has been changed to 19 no watching Gillou after all can anyone remember the OOP for court 17? I don't get why they would have switched it. OOP now is..
Court 17: WTA [32]Pironkova/Matric then Schuettler/Lopez then WTA [14]Pavlyuchenkova/Petrova
Court 19: WTA Hercog/Larsson then Gilles then WTA doubles.

He's seeded 15 for crying out loud, what does it take to get on a court with cameras

Dimitrov • Mahut • Paire • Hewitt • Raonic • Berdych • Gulbis • Murray

Re: The Grass is Always Greener on Gilou's Court - 2011

The old OOP for court 17 was Pironkova v Martic / Scheuttler v Lopez / Sela v Gillou / Marino v Vinci.
Hercog v Larsson was originally scheduled for 19 followed by loads of doubles, I reckon they've cancelled most of the doubs to try to get through the singles.
