Re: 2011 Schedule & Ranking

Gilles number 34! One place behind Gasquet. Not sure why, but i have some sort of rivalry in my head between Simon and Gasquet...I can't wait for him to be ahead of him I think it's because of the two strong fanbases for the french players :P

Gilles Simon
Dimitrov • Mahut • Paire • Hewitt • Raonic • Berdych • Gulbis • Murray

Thanks for the memories... Andy Roddick.

Re: 2011 Schedule & Ranking

Yes, ranking up to 34th. Since this thread is about number, thought I'll do something fun. So here's the statistic summary of Gilles' titles.

8
titles he won so far
7 cities he won titles in (Marseille/Bucharest 2/Indianaopolis/Casablanca/Bangkok/Metz/Sydney)
6 different months in the year he won titles (Jan/Feb/May/July/Sept/Oct)
5 consecutive years he won at least a title (2007-2011) in 5 continents (Europe/Africa/N.A./Asia/Australia)
4th among French for most titles (Noah 23/Forget 11/Leconte 9)
3 different surfaces (indoor hard/outdoor hard/clay)
2 titles since he elevated his status to papa Simon (Baby Timothee is 4 months old)
1 set lost among all 8 finals he won (lost 1st set in 07 Bucharest, all other wins in straight sets)
0 set lost on his way to 2 of his titles (Marseille 07/Sydney 11)

Nice list!

And this stat just sounds so cute. Papa Simon & baby Timothee.
Little Timmy is turning out to be a lucky charm for him.

Gilles has also won two titles without dropping a set (the first was Marseilles).

Oh, this is a great stat.

I had that baby daddy stat stuck in my mind the moment he won, so I didn't even try to think about other stat for the number 2 when I wrote the list. But this straight sets win probably is more relevant.

When we found out that he's going to be a father, I'm sure we were all wondering how's Gilles gonna handle a tennis career when he becomes a father. Now we know, little Timothee is daddy's lucky charm.

Relevant: yes, amazing: yes, but cute: no.
You could make a stat with 0 sets lost on his way to 2 titles. Not really how it's meant to be, but then both stats are in there.

I sure was, but I'm happy with the way how Gilles handles it. Like he said, Timothee has a very good mother who takes care of him, because his father is far away ( ), so Carine! If I ever see her at a tournament, I will thank her for being so amazing. I know it must be difficult for her to do it without him and of course for Gilles to leave her and his baby behind. And besides that, to me she comes across as a very nice girl.

Excellent idea , I edited the list.

Can you tell her that I also think she's amazing? When Gilles said Carine didn't want to go to Metz because she was worried the baby will keep Gilles up at nite and that may affect him in the tournament, I thought how great she is. I mean, if I were her, I'll probably tell him to not go to the tournament to spend time with me . I don't know if I can be so selfless for my man.

Cool

Of course! I'm thinking exactly the same, I think that after a few nights of being kept awake, I'd be so frustrated that I'd probably call him and say "Get your ass back home asap!".
I don't even know how to describe how awesome it is that she wants to sacrifice the precious time she can have with him so he can do well in a tournament. And I bet it didn't even cross her mind that there are nannies who could take care of her little man like many others would've thought about to be able to go their own way.

Re: 2011 Schedule & Ranking

. We are totally drooling over Carine for her awesomeness. Gilles is a lucky man. Then again, I also think he's a great guy (the fact that he doesn't go partying is enough to win me over ) and so deserving to have a great woman and have great babies .

Re: 2011 Schedule & Ranking

Who says we are only allowed to drool over Gilles? His gf/fiancée/wife is some serious competition here.
That's enough to win me over as well, just as much as his cute smile, his fabulous personality and especially his statements. He is so down to earth and hilarious at the same time when he says things like I've put in my sig.

And Timothee will soon join the competition too, it's only a matter of time when we'll get to see him running around the court after daddy .

not to mention his handsomeness and his lack of self-aware of his own look. I especially loves that he pulls all kind of faces and often stuck his tongues out during matches. The only thing I don't like about Gilles is his grumpiness, but he said his 2011 resolution is to stop whinning on court, hopefully he'll manage to stick to it.
