Re: 2009 Clay season

I hope Gillou plays mixed with Cornet, they made such a sweet couple at the Hopman Cup!

Re: 2009 Clay season

What a draw! I don't think he could have hoped for a better draw. Only Gonzalez is a somewhat less-than-perfect pick for a 4th round match but I think his game would suit Gilles well on normal conditions...

Let's hope he won't let such a draw go to waste.

Re: 2009 Clay season

it is a good draw for him. I hope he will take the advantage of it.
I like the sentence from Dominguez:
Quote:
«C'est un tableau compliqué pour tous, sauf peut-être pour Gilles Simon» déclare Patrice Dominguez
It is a complicate draw except for Gilles Simon.

It will be more difficult for others frenchies indeed.

Re: 2009 Clay season

Gilles' first round match is the real test. Odesnik is a clay court specialist. I hope that the old patient and wily Gilles shows up to play.

If Gilles can get through that match, then his draw really looks good the next couple of rounds.

But I'm not taking anything for granted right now. He's always struggled at Roland Garros, and his form right now worries me.

Re: 2009 Clay season

Odenik results on (european) clay in 2009:
Lost to Daniel 63 62
Lost to Leo Mayer 63 62
Beat Renavand 62 62 (great achievement)
Lost to Recouderc 76 75

Gilles has better results.

Re: 2009 Clay season

Gilles played against Muller today for the Benny B. Exho.
He would have won 7/6. (i saw that on orange TV but they also have Nadal winning 7/5 which is apparently wrong)

Re: 2009 Clay season

That one was true.
L'Equipe also says he put out an SOS to the crowd which was supporting him: "Good job, but come back tomorrow because I will need you!"
He says he knows Odesnik very well because they're the same age and that's why he knows it's going to be very hard.
