The title: "I'm eager to play against Federer" ^^
I'll make a summary later (look forward to it).
I think he'll never get to play Federer.

The French have been dropping like flies in Monte Carlo. In fact I think only Gael and Richard are left and they are just getting into the second round.

Poor Gilles I hope his back injury gets better soon.

Re: Clay season 2008

It's his back again (a compressed disc). He explains he only played because the ATP forces them to be there, otherwise they get fined. So since he had to stay in Monte-Carlo anyway, he played, but he knew he had 1% chance to win today.

Re: Clay season 2008

I'm glad he was still hurt, otherwise I'd be very, very mad at him about this result.

Hopefully he recovers quickly. I hate seeing him lose like this.

Re: Clay season 2008

I'm kind of shocked by the Gilles-hate going on in GM. I didn't realize that we was well known enough to have so many haters.

I don't understand why anyone would hate him, anyway. I'm sure those people doing it probably know nothing about him, and most likely haven't even seen him play.

It's a good thing I never read in GM
I can't understand why someone would hate him too, he's one of the sweetest and cutest players I've met

Hopefully he'll get better soon, poor Gillou

Re: Clay season 2008

In L'Equipe today - nothing new, but it sounds so bad that it's funny:
Quote:
What is the point of inflicting an unpleasant torture on oneself against a claycourt specialist when one can’t defend oneself? "I reinjured my back 2 days ago in training against Marat Safin in Monte-Carlo", Gilles Simon sighed. "I asked the doc if there was any risk to make it worse if I played. He said no. I was here, so I played." "Play" is a big word. Apart from a never-ending first game where Simon came close to a break and from a couple of shots hit with his famouse rubber arm only, there wasn’t any match. Forced to retire in Estoril one week ago because of his back, Gilles Simon endured the match like a sado-maso torture. Unable to serve normally ("I was afraid the landing would hurt"), unable to move normally ("I was in pain everytime I had to run"), he did what he could. Was it sensible to play? "Some people will say I played a crappy match, but I gave it a try. I had one chance per thousand, but why not? That’s how it looks in the end when you don’t have any confidence and are afraid to do anything because it might hurt. Now I have to wait until this lumbago goes away, because it will at one point. Maybe I’ll play Munich next week." Or maybe not.

For the moment, I reckon it would be wise to skip Munich.
