Re: Clay season 2008

Marc...
But Gilles still seemed in pain at the end of the match.

Yes, TV5 isn't showing tennis right now, they showed one match this afternoon and will cover both matches tomorrow (and on Saturday).

Marc was just mad at himself imo, that was a terrible performance from him, I don't think it was directed at Gilles.

He's probably going to be stiff tomorrow.

I wish he didn't have to play Tsonga.

Re: Clay season 2008

Yep, he should be 2nd seed of the event, they should meet in the final.
On the other hand, there's no shame in losing to Jo, whatever the idiots on GM might say, so he has no pressure anymore now, that's not a bad thing.

Re: Clay season 2008

He gave a little interview in French at the end! He said it wasn't a big deal to play the qualies because he didn't waste too much energy.
But today his leg really was hurting a lot. The trainer told him it wouldn't get worse, so he "forced". But he hopes he'll be at 100% tomorrow, he definitely sounded a bit worried.
He came to Casa mostly to get ready for RG and whatever happens now, the preparation has been successful for him anyway.

And then the journalist told him it's fascinating because it looks so easy when he plays, he looks like he's just walking on the court, which lulls the opponent to sleep and then he can crack a winner out of the blue.
They always tell him that and as usual, he answered he doesn't have that feeling at all, he feels like he's running all over the court, on the contrary (but today, you really were just walking, Gillou!) and it's funny he looks so relaxed for other people because he often feels so tense on the contrary. It's just an impression he gives. And if the opponent feels that way too, that's perfect, it makes up for his lack of power in the legs.

Re: Clay season 2008

He'll be back to #33 at worst in the rankings, he's so unlucky with the seedings this year - missed it by one spot in both IW and Miami because there wasn't one single withdrawal in the top 32, now he would be seeded if they took this week's ranking, but they take last week's ranking... I'll be mad if he draws a dangerous seed tomorrow.

Nice win. I had a feeling it was time for another title.

Le Poussin! Faithfully ignoring the haters since 1995.

Le Poulailler de Poussin! (Simontarded.)

Ron Paul for President 2012!

Re: Clay season 2008

You were right, Bobble, Marc is completely mad at Gilles! I hadn’t paid attention to the handshake itself, just at Marc’s rants during the match and I thought he was mad about his awful performance. But he was actually angry at Gilles for acting like he was injured and then playing normally in his opinion.
(I don't get it, he really makes it sound like obvious gamesmanship, it was his fault if he couldn't deal with the situation, Gilles looked as impassive as usual.)

Anyway, Gilles’ injury is just a bruise, so I hope he will be OK today. I’m sure he can beat Jo on clay, but he needs to be able to run like a hare for that, otherwise he won't stand a chance the way Jo is playing now.

Re: Clay season 2008

Here’s what they say in L’Equipe:
Gilles had a big bruise after falling right in the first game of the match, needed to call the trainer and managed the rest of the match by using his brain and boring into Gicquel’s nerves. After the handshake, which was simply icy, Gicquel didn't calm down and says he doesn’t understand how Gilles was able to play like that and hit the ball like crazy if he was injured. “He played one point normally and then he stopped playing the next one… It was annoying me and he made me lose it”. Gilles: “I guess Marco is calling me all the names under the sun. But I have no reason to apologize for having won this match. It also was a psychological battle.”

And then about the next match against Jo:
“« Ç’avait été un beau combat mais rien à voir avec “Casa”, dit-il. Cette semaine, j’ai vraiment retrouvé mes coups et mon jeu de jambes sur la surface. Quoi qu’il arrive, ma préparation pour Roland est réussie. Maintenant, il y a quand même une coupe au bout. Sûr qu’il y aura un enjeu… » Ne reste plus qu’à prier pour que le jeu n’en pâtisse pas.“
“It was a nice fight in Rome, but nothing to compare with Casa. This week I’ve really recovered my game and my footwork on this surface. Whatever happens now, my preparation for RG has been a success. Now, there is a title to win here. There will be something at stake for sure…”

Thanks MacArthur. It's too bad for Jojo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Another final for Gilles. Hope he can capitalize on this opportunity.
Edit: Gilles will play Benneteau in the Finals.

Here's Gilles section of the French Open draw.
Gicquel /Mahut/Santoro in his section plus Robredo and Ferrer.

Btw he has never played Stepanek before.

[12] Robredo vs Coria
Troicki vs Gicquel
Q vs Vanek
Simon vs [21] Stepanek
[25] Hewitt vs Mahut
Calleri vs Fish
Santoro vs Mayer
Darcis vs [5] Ferrer
