Re: Clay season 2008

Unbelievable, each game seems to last 15 minutes.
Please, Gilles, win the next 3 games to love, this is painful.

OMG, he's serving for the match , I missed the break - I was getting a bit sick of the 40-40, 40-A, 40-40, A-40, 40-40...

Allez, put an end to our misery, Gillou!

Oh, and Ernie is -ing too...

Re: Clay season 2008

Congrats to Gilles.

Next up: Boris Pashanski

They've played once before (Gilles won) but it was a 3 setter.

Allez Gillou.

There are 3 weeks left or after the French Open to qualify for the Olympics. Gilles is France's 4th best player with 900 points but close on his tail is Llodra with 831/Mahut with 761/Monfils at 718.

Off Topic: I'm surprised to see Peter Polansky playing here. He's only be playing Challenger circuit tournaments. He's never won an ATP match but he's in the main draw playing Coria ATM.

I've been keeping a close eye on that ranking for a while too! But are you sure about the 900 / 831 points? In Labamba's last update, he's 100 points ahead of the next one, which means Mahut, Llodra & Co would need to make it at least to the R16 to overcome him in the Beijing ranking, right?
I hope he will win enough matches by himself to be safe, this is going to make me nervous otherwise in RG. I think it's important to him to be in the French top 4. He always wants so badly to play in DC - at least here it's beyond Forget's control.

Some articles are funny - "qualifier upsets the No. 7 seed Serra".

Re: Clay season 2008

It's really four first french guys who will go ? Because I seriously doubt they will not send Llodra with his 2 titles in singles and his great victories in doubles...

Re: Clay season 2008

Llodra has already qualified with Clément in doubles, he will be there. But only in doubles so far.
If Gilles still is 4th Frenchie in 3 weeks, he will play in singles at the Olympics.
Or at least that's what I've understood.

I think each country is allowed to send 4 singles players and 2 doubles players (and they can have 2 doubles teams, so 2 of the singles players will also play in doubles).
If Llodra also qualifies in singles, one more doubles player spot will be available, for example for Santoro (who wanted to play with Gasquet in Beijing).
But if Gilles defends his spot for the remaining 3 weeks, they're forced to send Gasquet-PHM-Tsonga-Simon in singles and Llodra-Clément in doubles (with probably Gasquet-Tsonga playing doubles too).

But maybe we should ask Renaud, he's good for all this stuff...
