Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

Last year Ernests got his first win of the season somewhere in March if I remember correctly. That was a very depressing beginning of the season. Let's hope 2016 will be different.

Ernests will play in Brisbane and Sydney (qualification probably) and then the AO. Good luck! :tennis:

thats a really encouraging first round win. copil is always at his best to start the year so its good to see ernie beat him so easily. it gives me more confidence for the match against nishioka. if he can handle copil like that he should handle nishioka in a similar fashion

Well, Ernests lost 6-3 6-4 :( Looking at the stats, he got broken once in each set, had 16 aces, 5 double faults, and only won 33% points on his second serve. Nishioka must be a really good receiver.
He is. If he wasn't aced, he put many balls in play and Gulbis made most of the errors. :(

Will be a long way back for Ernie...

But I guess it's not a huge surprise that "Mr. Consistancy" struggles to put in back to back solid performances in the very first tournament of the year after a rather long break without any matches. His schedule indicates that he is well aware of the fact that ne needs matchplay. I just hope that sooner or later it will click for him. ;)

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things [Sydney]

I'm so over this pathetic bullshit. It's time he went on the Challenger Tour, week in week out. He's not even good enough for this level.

Either that or quit altogether. I don't think he cares any more.

Top 10?:spit::scratch: He will never, ever be top 10 again, not even top 50. He's rubbish, and that's being kind.

Well, with playing Quallies against these Challenger guys he's pretty much doing that right now.

I understand that he's always been a slow starter. Into the season, into tournaments... first rounds are always the hardest for him. But he's really taking it to new extremes now. Deep down I hope there's an explanation for it. That maybe they changed something during the off-season and he needs time to adapt. But... I don't really believe it.

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things [Sydney]

Same old, same old... Why does there have to be an excuse? He's a 'seasoned pro ffs. 1st rounds are the same for everybody.

There are no excuses, it's pathetic looking for them. We all know what the real problems are but are in denial. I am not in denial. The problems are with his attitude and mental outlook.

There is no explanation. He needs to get on with the serious business of winning matches. If he doesn't win them, the Challenger Tour will be his only option. How many times have I bloody said this?? FFS he needs a backbone, and start being nasty with himself, harder on himself, and have a win at all costs mental attitude...he doesn't care enough. He doesn't think it's embarrassing to lose to people he says 'he's never heard of, doesn't understand why x is ranked'.... That will soon be him, not heard of, not seen, because you're nothing on Challenger Tour, nobody gives a shit unless you're young and upcoming.

Ernests is not upcoming, time is not on his side. He should start giving his opponents a bit more respect, and stop thinking so much of himself.

It's my belief he peaked in 2014, he reached semi of a GS, but now doesn't have any desire, he has regressed and regressed ever since.

He does the training and appears to work hard but then doesn't pay attention to technical stuff, which is why I gasp when he says Bresnik is one of the best technical coaches in the game. They've destroyed his forehand between them. Didn't he orginally go to Bresnik because he said couldn't hit a forehand???!!! It was NEVER this bad before 2012 when he hooked up with Bresnik!!! Not an excuse but a reason.

And it is my belief this has led to the wrist and shoulder injuries because of poor technique. But then he doesn't address the injuries...which when he has a former ATP Trainer in his corner is just so bloody dumb!!! But then it leads me to believe there isn't a physical issue. Either sort it or accept it. IF THERE IS REAL INJURY, DON'T PLAY! (Personally I think it's just tendonitis which heals with rest). (He gets so much of that because he loses all the time!!!) So....sort the technique out!!!(with someone else in his corner!!!)

He tried to dump Bresnik and then went back...:help:

A crappy start to 2016, to be sure, but it's only been 1 week into the year and 2-3 matches so far. There are 355 days ahead of him. No telling what can happen, barring injury. He can play in Challengers and qualies for 250, 500, and Slams. No shame in that. Seasoned pros do it when they have to. Until Ernests disappears from the tour for longer periods of time, I think there's plenty to hope for. He's back and playing and that's a start.

Damn :(. I think if Ernests got a thing like mono or something at this point, it would be too much to come back from on top of everything else.
Well, I'm no doctor so I have no clue. But I guess it could be anything. Maybe just a lingering "normal" illness that just hasn't broken out yet. Doesn't have to be the worst case (=mono). ;)

His immune system has been a problem in the past, hasn't it?
