Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things

Last year Ernests got his first win of the season somewhere in March if I remember correctly. That was a very depressing beginning of the season. Let's hope 2016 will be different.

Ernests will play in Brisbane and Sydney (qualification probably) and then the AO. Good luck!

Looks like a good preparation in Tenerife and he's in a good frame of mind - flying little sister to Tenerife for her one week vacation.

I don't use social media much so I didn't know about his off-season preparation. Maybe you could post in the Ernests News thread if you see some mention of what he's doing? I'd appreciate it

He also entered Montpellier in the week after AO so it certainly looks like he's willing to play himself into some form and (hopefully) climb up the rankings. Fingers crossed that all is well with his health.

Nishioka kid can play (I think).
Anyway, c'mon Ernests. Let's not wait until march for your first win this year, okay?

thats an annoying draw. copil is always good to start the year and next round wont be a pushover. he probably got one of the hardest draws

Didn't face a single break point. Solid stuff.

Nishioka is on a winning streak (only on Challenger level, but still...). But I don't know if he has a game that can challenge Ernests.

thats a really encouraging first round win. copil is always at his best to start the year so its good to see ernie beat him so easily. it gives me more confidence for the match against nishioka. if he can handle copil like that he should handle nishioka in a similar fashion

Nishioka is left handed, no more livescore because we will have a stream with steady camera for his second round starting in about 30 minutes....
Hope we will see another win, because there are 3 rounds of qualies in Brisbane.

Gulbis - Nishioka (ATP Brisbane)

Well, Ernests lost 6-3 6-4 Looking at the stats, he got broken once in each set, had 16 aces, 5 double faults, and only won 33% points on his second serve. Nishioka must be a really good receiver.

He is. If he wasn't aced, he put many balls in play and Gulbis made most of the errors.

Re: Ernests in 2016: Hoping for Good Things [Brisbane]

Will be a long way back for Ernie...

But I guess it's not a huge surprise that "Mr. Consistancy" struggles to put in back to back solid performances in the very first tournament of the year after a rather long break without any matches. His schedule indicates that he is well aware of the fact that ne needs matchplay. I just hope that sooner or later it will click for him.
