Jeeze! Drink every time he says "rich". The style of writing was a bit too dramatic for my taste, but indeed there were good quotes through out!

Re: All About Ernests - Interviews and Articles

Transcript of yesterdays presser: http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/news/...279999444.html

I would´ve loved to see his face at this point:

Q. Have you ever thought about winning Grand Slam?
ERNESTS GULBIS: Come on.

Q. This year.
ERNESTS GULBIS: I thought about it, yes. (Laughter.)

Re: All About Ernests - Interviews and Articles

Thanks for the transcript.

I think this is my favorite exchange:

Quote:
Q. Anything else you want to say? Anything else you have on your mind? You want to thank somebody?
ERNESTS GULBIS: I want to thank you for couple great questions.

Re: All About Ernests - Interviews and Articles

Haas on Ernests, in an interview:
Quote:
"You have to earn everything. You can't buy ATP points to buy your ranking. It's not possible; otherwise Gulbis would be No1"
People say it must've been a joke, but I'm not so sure.
Or it's just that famous German sense of humor that I'm not geting...

Re: All About Ernests - Interviews and Articles

I saw the interview on livestream. It's a joke or snarking (no worries about it) although Haas wasn't laughing or smiling while saying so.

It's interesting that besides journalists and commentators who keep bringing up his RICH DAD, the players seem to have the same mindset as well. Simon also just said that he has the strange lifestyle. I'm very curious now what Ernie has done during the tournament. Having helicopter pick-up and drop-off to/from hotels?

Re: All About Ernests - Interviews and Articles

To be honest, even if it was meant as a joke it was a bit insulting. Plus, it came out of nowhere and frankly, I can't see what was the point in saying something so stupid. Haas strikes me as being not very smart or likeable, actually. It was uncalled for and inappropriate.

Re: All About Ernests - Interviews and Articles

Simon's whole interview struck me as someone who was basically repeating the same things we've all heard. While I'm sure the players have more inside knowledge than we do, I doubt if they all know each other all that well. They don't all stay at the same hotels.

Simon could've been referring to Ernests' "professional girlfriends" lifestyle.

As for Haas, big deal. Ernests has said things people didn't want to hear so he'll have to put up with people doing the same. Although it gets tiring that all everybody focuses on is the money issue. Sometimes I feel like there's a lot of jealousy going around

Re: All About Ernests - Interviews and Articles

I get VERY annoyed by the billionaire comments, everyone knows that Ernests´ dad is a rich man, but they keep saying he is THE richest man in Latvia and billionaire, but people just have no clue!

To compare with the rest of West Europe and not even talking about USA or Russia, you don´t have to be that rich to be called rich in Latvia.
Ainars is definately not in top 20 of the richest persons in LV, I couldn´t find longer list, so I don´t know if he maybe is somewhere in top 100. But the ridiculous thing is - no.20 richest guy is worth 40 mil dollars, which is less than for example Nadal has earned in his career in onlytournaments, not to mention endorsments and advertising deals and so on.
So his dad has a couple of millions, that doesn´t mean he´s a billionaire travelling in private jet, i mean comon, check your facts!

But it doesn´t surprise me other players say things like that, Ernests has often told he doesn´t hang around in locker room to chat, so he maybe seems a little arrogant to some of the players.

Re: All About Ernests - Interviews and Articles

Incidentally, being rich is not a crime and the fact that they use the expression in a derogatory manner all the time gets me quite annoyed.
Enough with this! When Ernests spoke his mind at least there was some logic behind it, but in this case it was just a nasty comment disguised as a joke. It seemed also so immature. Haas is an adult, but sounded like a stupid child instead.

That was exactly the feeling I got, Eliande. Haas and Federer are good friends. I'm guessing they've had a discussion or two about Ernests.

I wonder when they're going to say something about Janowicz's "Federer is stuck on himself" comment.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had. And I am sure something will be said about Janowicz too, at some point.
They sound like bitter men who can't accept their own decline and take it out on those who are a threat to them. Truly pathetic!

Re: All About Ernests - Interviews and Articles

Since when discussing peoples financial status became elegant (or even acceptable)?
Haas should better shut it, or at least refrain from traveling by private planes himself (if he wants to sound legit). Federer's barking dog.
