Re: Ernests' news thread!

No, hes not playing Sydney... It would just be cool to get whether he is playing Kooyong or Auckland. But I guess we are undertaking him: our multiple Ernests are playing in both tournaments (now he has found out what that final S is useful to: just in case he doubles himself in order to play 2 tournaments in the same week).

kooyong is actually only at the end of the week I think. so maybe he's planning on keeping the second round loss tradition and go to kooyong for the end of the week

Re: Ernests' news thread!

It could even be possible, we're talking about Ernests, in the end!
Anyway I think he must have gone nuts if he's really planned this (the probable second round loss - well, why not first round, then? - and then the 3-4 hours' flight from New Zealand to Australia), considering that Kooyon starts on 14th and Auckland starts only 2 days before... dont you think? Or Karl has gone mad, and Erno is not yet aware of his January schedule, lol.

Re: Ernests' news thread!

I think some players sleep too much during the offseason.... Monfils forgot to enter Brisbane while Gulbis entered two tournaments in one week... lol
I wonder how Gulbis will get out of this trouble... he cannot withdraw from an ATP tournament to play an exhibition but I am sure he signed a contract in Kooyong ....

Re: Ernests' news thread!

The most popular sportsman of the year in Latvia is Māris Štrombergs They didn't say if Ernests got the second or the third place I was almost sure this would happen. But I'm sure he can clinch this next year if he really wants to

He wasn't even there at the ceremony, neither was his dad though Ernests was nominated for two awards, so I don't think he gives a ... about these provincial awards. He also is quite uncommunicative with local media. Some snobbery there I think.

Re: Ernests' news thread!

Well, Māris absolutely deserved it. I saw him winning the gold medal and it's right to reward him for that. About Erno, I think he has his reasons for being uncommunicative with the local media He should stay polite though. And he shouldn't be there, it doesn't fit in his schedule. It's December, he should be working his butt off in Hawaii. He'll have time in the future to go to this kind of events, when he really deserves to win.

"Sometimes you are embarrassed by how you are playing. Sometimes you want to be there, sometimes you want to go home. Sometimes you are fighting hard and sometimes you are fighting yourself." - Ernests Gulbis

Double-booking peeves organisers

Courtney Walsh | December 09, 2008
Article from: The Australian

THE organisers of the Australian Open lead-in event at Kooyong are sweating on the resolution of a scheduling bungle by a player in its select field.

A week after rising French star Gael Monfils' name was missing from the inaugural Brisbane International beginning on January 5 due to an error by his management, it is understood Ernests Gulbis is double-booked for events the week before the Australian Open.

Gulbis, 20, has entered the Auckland Open, which runs during the same week as the Kooyong Classic, where he is one of eight players in a field headed by Roger Federer.

Kooyong tournament director Colin Stubs was alerted to the potential problem on Friday and is waiting for an explanation from Gulbis's management company Octagon.

Stubs, who approached Gulbis following the Latvian's outstanding effort against Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon, is in no doubt the world No53 had made a firm commitment to the Kooyong exhibition.

"There is an issue and it is not of our doing and I am trying to get to the bottom of it," Stubs said. "I have looked back at our documentation and it is unequivocal.

"I don't know what has happened but it could be a simple mistake, it could be miscommunication but there is no point in really speculating until we know more."

But Richard Palmer, Auckland's tournament director, is adamant the Latvian will fulfil his commitments there.

Given the Auckland tournament is an ATP event, it is possible Gulbis could face sanctions if he withdrews to play an exhibition.

While the Kooyong Classic does not begin until two days after the Auckland tournament, there is no chance Gulbis will be able to play both, even if he is an early loser in New Zealand, given Stubs needs to have eight committed players.

Kooyong is not the only body awaiting international clarification on eligibility, with Tennis Australia yet to be notified as to whether rising star Bernard Tomic will face sanctions following his bizarre forfeit in Perth.

The 16-year-old forfeited a match following repeated complaints by his father, John, that an umpire was failing to call the foot-faults of Tomic's opponent, Marinko Matosevic.
What is he doing?

Re: Ernests' news thread!

A while ago I was having a conversation with Camilla (I think) on msn and I was wondering how Erno makes his schedule. I was imagining him and Karl sitting on a deck next to the beach of Hawaii during sunset, with a glass of wine I think I might be right afterall... and there might have been too much wine and too little light to make a decent schedule
