Re: Riga Mortis: General Latvian tennis talk

Some news from juniors: Kristaps Lapins was the runner up in the under 16 TE tournament in Oulu, Finland ( my hometown.. why would anyone care about U14 & 16 TE tournaments anyways..! ). He lost the final in 3 sets.
To be honest he was a bit lucky, he played against the 2nd seed in the 2nd round, who then had to retire after 2 games because of a stomach virus. Anyways, good thing he made it to the final! Yay! Spreading the Latvian love!

For those of you who care, Andis hasn't done too well in his last tournament. He entered the Challenger event in Spain in both singles and doubles. He and George Bastl of Switzerland got wildcards for doubles but unfortunately they lost.

Andis then lost in the singles to Gero Kretschmer of Germany 6-3 6-3

I've heard playing conditions weren't that great there...

This week a number of Latvians take part in Estonia F1 futures in Kuressaare. I was supposed to go there, but had to change my plans unfortunately. Mikelis Libietis, Rihards Emulins, Arturs Kazijevs, Oskars Vaskis lost in qualifying. Andis and Denis are in the main draw. Juska/Pavlovs and Kazijevs/Libietis are also playing doubles.
