Re: Marin's clay season 2011.

I remember all of those matches between Marin and Del Potro, and I think Marin really has a chance. Marin had chances in all of their previous matches + what you said this time JMDP should really be exhausted, and, put aside that loss to Davydenko, Marin is really starting to play good again, so hopefully he'll get to R3.

from what i saw in match vs davydenko he is faster and can be longer in relly that he could before. he throw in 1 st service in tight situations. he plays good tennis from marseille aside american Masters. but del potro will probably win. he is more stabilised, that is because of ages. and he eill be more and more, that's all he needs. i.e. there is no way he would pull out 3:5 in breaker like he did vs starace after such a lost vs davydenko one or two year before.

I think this is a great chance for him to defeat Del Po.
Vamos Marin!

Re: Marin's clay season 2011.

marin should have won that match with davy...he really through away that first set after serving for it at 5*-4 40-15
i think he's got a shot. despite messing up that one match, he's serving as well as he ever has and his movement/ground game seem to be getting back on track

my favorite was the worst number 3 player in the world

Of course, I always liked Marin, he became my fave in early 2008 when he beat the last year Finalist Fernando Gonzalez at the Australian Open, that was some really impressive stuff for a 20 year old guy. Amazing winners hit. MArin and Del Potro are definately my favs, so I can lean back and enjoy there match today, whoever wins.
But I think I should rather keep my fingers crossed for MArin since he needs the win more than Delpo.

Marin truly had chances to win in their first 2 meetings but started to choke and give the match away, which is fatal against Juan.

Level 1 favorites: Cilic, del Goato, Fed, Rafa

Level 2 favorites: Nole, Ancic(R.I.P), Verdasco, Tsonga

Re: Marin's clay season 2011.

Marin plays Karlovic tommorow in R1 in Rome. The match starts at 11 a.m. local time and it's first on court 2 (not sure if it has tv coverage).

Btw. Marin is getting better at doubles, he was in semis of Madrid masters last week and is now top 100 in doubles. Atleast something.

Fan list: Cilic, Federer, Coric

P.S. Watch out for Donna Vekic and Borna Coric, 2020. Hopman cup winners. - posted in 2011, let's see if it happens

Re: Marin's clay season 2011.

6:4,1:0, win by retirement for marin. ivo won only 49% points on serve, while marin won 71%. marin was in complete control of this match, even he was 2:4 down in 1st (he won 5 game in a row, that's good). till than he had many, many chances on ivo's serve, while ivo had only one good return's game and one break point. at 4:4 marin won 4th break point in that game (ivo had few game points). at 5:4 ivo had 15:30. ivo had 30:15 in the opening game of 2nd set, that was all from him. ferrer next.

Re: Marin's clay season 2011.

With his win today Marin is currently 24th provisionaly for monday. This rank is really important now because next monday will count for seeding positions in RG. Realistically only player that can catch him is Querrey who would have to go further then Marin in Rome.

I doubt Marin has a chance against Ferrer but we will see. Plays tommorow last match on court Pietrangeli. Second after 7:30 p.m. (after Azarenka's match).

Fan list: Cilic, Federer, Coric

with melzer and fish (even roddick) in the draw he can reach quaters (just not ferrer and almagro). he isn't in bad form, match vs del potro was just mental thing.

Re: Marin's clay season 2011.

I agree he is in OK form atm (not good), but he really needs to tighten up his errors (specially on forehand).

I have a feeling he is often going for too much, trying to hit a ball 20 cm over the net or trying to hit the outside lines. That isn't neccessary, specially against weaker players where he can push them out of the point and force their errors just by constantly hitting strong balls with good depth.

Draw with Fish, Roddick or even (injured) Monfils would be sweet. That's why it's important he isn't ranked under top 25 so that he doesn't clash with someone like Ferrer or Nadal too soon.

Oh and forgot to mention, provisionally 24th but Nalbandian won't play RG so 23rd seed atm. Wouldn't be suprising if 1-2 more cancel it as well.

Fan list: Cilic, Federer, Coric

he can't play vs nadal in 1st 4 rounds. if he is seeded from 21. to 24. spot he will play against players who are seeded from 9. or 12. (monfils, almagro, fish, roddick) in 3rd round. if he is seeded from 25. to 28. he will play against players who are seeded from 5. to 8. (soderling, ferrer, berdych, melzer). he would play just reverse in 1/8. so, it's almost same.

Yep, should've written Ferrer or Soderling sorry. Anyway, in a good spot atm.

Re: Marin's clay season 2011.

It's not quite the same, Monfils, Almagro, and esp. Duck and Fish are much easier in RG then any of the other four, even Melzer.
