Ball in for Australia
Rising Australian tennis player Carsten Ball's rankings surge has earned him a place in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas squad for next month's tie in Chile.

Facing a tough task on clay in Antofagasta, Ball is the first player named in the squad, following his rise to No. 188 in the world with some good current form on the circuit. The left-handed son of former Australian player Syd Ball was Australia's top junior in 2005.

Hanley is out but Peter Luczak and Sam Groth are in the squad of six. It's BRYDAN Klein!

Still think it's too early for Pete to try and play Davis Cup and best out of 5 set matches, having said that, he's probably better than anyone else still.

Smeets, who has just had his aussie citizenship pushed through has become a late addition to the squad! How did he get an Aussie and French slam wildcard this year?
Why bother sending him if they didn't intend playing him! Perhaps doubles? Will Groth get dropped to make room?

Re: World Group Play-Offs: Australia at Chile (September 19-21, 2008)

Why didn't they nominate at least one of the good doubles players?

Kerr or Hanley or even Junaid, who is also solid on clay in singles.
